Tasnim – ISFAHAN, Sepahan edged past Padideh to move top of the Iran Professional League (IPL) table on Friday, whilst Tractor Sazi earned an important away match against Pars Jonoubi on Saturday.
Mehrdad Mohammadi scored the only goal of the match in Isfahan’s Naghshe Jahan Stadium after he chested down a ball behind the area and found the back of the net with a subtle shot.
Sepahan sits top of the IPL table with 29 points, one place ahead of Padideh over goal difference.
“I am very satisfied with our performance against Sepahan. We didn’t allow them to manage the match, especially in the second half,” Padideh coach Yahya Golmohammadi said in the post- match news conference.
On Saturday, Mehdi Mehdipour scored the winner in the 77th minute from a set-piece in Takhti Stadium in Abadan.
Tractor Sazi moved up to third place, surpassing Persepolis with 26 points, two points more than the team.
Persepolis are fourth with 24 points, with two games in hand compared to Tractor Sazi.
“We did not deserve to be on a losing team. We started well the match and managed the game but they were more experienced than us,” Pars Jonoubi coach Mehdi tartar said in the post-match news conference.
“I would like to excuse our fans because we could not make them happy,” he added.
Sepahan and Padideh sit top of the table with 29 points.
