That gesture is against the killing by the armed rebels known as the M23 movement in east Congo, particularly in Kivu, who is fighting the government of Congo. So no, they are not protesting against the government in charge of Congo who is sending them there to play, and who have total control over their families.

Actually continuing to support this team is the weakest and easiest thing to do. Putting aside a love and devotion one has had for a lifetime has been difficult.

But for 48 years we have been trying to keep our pride and joy. Tried our best to enjoy Iran including team melli. Unknowingly this also strengthened the regime as it tied it’s core into anything we love. It gave them opportunity and legitimacy.
The absolute best thing for them is that people get behind team melli which will unite Iran (thus the regime).

it’s not black and white but it is how it works.
When people said Iran is backwards we said it is not
when people said Iran is terrorist state we emphasised the great people
when team melli played we made sure persian pride is what makes Iran great.

All of this is in the benifit of what controls Iran. Not the people but the regime.

In order to keep pressuring the regime we should enjoy our lives but;
we have to keep criticising and condemning the regime INSTEAD OF BASHING MONARCHISTS AND PAHLAVIS.
we have to ban the support of everything that the regime controls (team melli)
we have to STOP whitewashing everything in Iran just because we want to keep our pride.
