No, this has gone too far. There is absolutely no reason for a national team to play in the world cup with the current situation. Who would even cheer for them or wish them success? Who are they even playing for? People are dying in the streets and we should cheer for 11 grown men kicking a ball?

I have travelled to follow Team Melli, and scream my lungs out for every post-1979 world cup apart from Qatar. When they are slaughtering our children, our elderly in the streets, team melli becomes irrelevant. I love the beautiful game, but even thinking about football makes me nauseous right now.

We had this discussion within Woman Life Freedom movement and I said that the team shouldn't play because even though a number of players expressed solidarity, it was such a critical time for Iran and Iranians.

All the threads were closed and I/we were constantly told that "football and politics shouldn't mix" and "let's get back to football" when I kept saying that football and politics are very much mixed whilst kids were being shot dead. Even "stop it or I will ban without any warnings". It was really upsetting at the time

No but it helps provide a unified front from all of the nation that enough is enough. If our shopkeepers are on strike, our actors are refusing to take up roles, everyone is united, then it means something for the people if the footballers are also part of that.

What is TM's success in world cup (hypothetically) going to mean when generations of families are getting gunned down on the street.

And IR will only ever use TM for their own propaganda purposes like they did last time. And threaten the individual players' families if they don't play ball. But if the team jointly refuses then the IR has less artillery than going after individual guys' families in the WC itself. It's not easy for the players, I acknowledge.

I know, and acknowledge that. I respect your view, but disagree with it - and disagreement is healthy (It's just the people who were closing threads and threatening bans then for "talking about politics", now have changed their stance to the opposite side.)

I agree with you that it isn't amongst the top 10,000 things people are asking for. Just that it means a lot to hamvatans risking their lives and livelihoods when their stars are exactly on the same page as them.

Under IR, we will be embarrassed again anyways. IR purposely sabotages TM anyways, they want the publicity of the team being at the tournament, but we have all heard that calls have come in in the middle of the games from akhund bastards telling players to drop important games. These are not rumors, they know if Iran has a great run in world cup or wins asian cup, the people will flood to the streets. IR controls everything in Iran, down to the performance of TM. They don't want a successful TM, one that is just good enough to make it and have 1 good showing so they can save face. Our team could be so much more without these bastards in charge. Qatar 2023 world cup should show you, that game was rigged 100%. IR did a favor to Qatar their butt buddy and they didn't risk any kind of celebrations back home. It's clear as day. Them making TM the team of mullah's is a propaganda tool as well. They like this as it destroys the last thing that really gave people hope and pushed them to celebrate anything. Celebration is for the white western devil. Everyone in Iran should be miserable all the time.

F*** IR is all I will say, and I don't really care if we're banned or not. I don't personally think it will do much to help or hurt either side, but it's honestly just a waste of time and breath to care about this team under this regime. A loser regime will = loser results in most avenues. IR sucks and TM is a reflection of that.

I agree TM needs to be banned. Russia is banned for its invasion. and we have IRI invasion too. This team is not OUR TM. it is IRI's
