EVERYTHING they did was wrong: gathering pro regime rallies, instead of ignoring questions they answer in a regime style manner, they sing their hearts out.
And they are fckn 33-39 years old!! It’s not that they have their football carreers on the line..

and still so calles anti regimi Iranians defend and support them no matter what! They turn against us in the name of the IR flag and anthem.

it is a fckt up world and it keeps explaining why IR is able to survive for almost 50 years now.

I want these enablers to give me one example of a star footballer on TM who has faced any real repercussion for not doing IR khayemali ass-kissing. Literally, name me one who just shut up, played, barely mouthed/bs'd that crab anthem, etc. Has one been whipped, hanged, family killed, etc.? These guys are the IR's favorite playthings. You know what would be their gravest punishment. A suspension. Sardar really pissed them off proactively, and he lost his spot in the team and was hurt financially, which sucks and I feel for him. In reality, the slightest amount of solidarity with the people will barely hurt these guys careers, but they're not even willing to take a suspension or miss a world cup game/get benched. I get it they want to play football, but if you can't do the smallest thing and risk the smallest slap on the wrist for what is right, then I don't need to admire you and think of you as representing me. They represent themselves first and foremost, then do the bidding of IR to salvage their role as retirement age players who barely merit being in the squad, then lastly they have some sympathy for people I imagine. I think people are mixing up their priorities when it's apparent, clear as day. They are mercenaries, they are political actors whether they like it or not, and there is valid reason to not support them.

Ignorance is bliss though, and people like to be entertained. People will go watch an event in Saudi Arabia the days after Khashoggi was chopped to bits (they did, WWE ran a show there soon after that happened). If you want to support things like this for your entertainment, then fine, but don't lie to yourself and us that it's the moral thing to do. You're prioritizing your entertainment over human life and dignity, and that is fine. It's happened for thousands of years, but accept it for what it is. We are not evil to condemn Saudis hosting a fun entertainment spectacle right after chopping a journalist to bits, would people say that is much different than the situation we find ourselves in now?

The only difference is that we are Iranian ourselves and cheering the entertainment of the team as our own people are actively being hanged today, yesterday and tomorrow, which I personally think is slightly worse. Americans watching football, wrestling, nascar, etc. and ignoring the blood on Saudis hands is condemnable but understandable. Our own people turning a blind eye... now that is depressing.

The speech was pathetic and uninspiring. Bunch of cliche crap. Completely devoid of any reality that the people and this team have faced. This idiot spent all those years in Europe and he still seeks the help of Zahra who died 1400 years ago. No he doesn't. He is as fake Muslim as the rest of them. He just read a script and without any conviction.

He could have said...our people have had a terrible recent history. Poverty and war now affect the daily lives of Iranians. Many people have died in protests and in war. The people are hurting. We have a responsibility to bring them an iota of joy. Or bring pride to Iranian people. We must fight for our pride.

He could have said...there are all these people here and in Iran that wish that we lose...and we will fight to shut them up and prove them wrong.

He could have said. We need to fight and win every game we can in America...so that with each Victory we put another thumb in their eyes.

With the help of Zahra, all you will get is a tie with a joke team.

Would you prefer if Iran didn’t send a team to the World Cup? What would that serve? Why would that be better? It seems like you truly won’t be happy until the regime has taken every single thing that once brought joy to Iranians.

Nobody will answer my simple question, which shows it’s just willful ignorance for many. If someone who is rooting for IR team to do well and just enjoying the entertainment because why mix politics with sports, answer me the below truthfully:

was it moral in the hours after news dropped that Saudis bonesawed Khashoggi to bits, that WWE hosted a wrestling show there and people showed up and pretended nothing was wrong? Even WWE’s former VP said in retrospect it was horribly immoral, but they continued with the show for the money, the fans who attended, in my opinion, put their morals aside for their own entertainment value.

if you disagree with the above and that the political context of these events is very important, but you don’t have the same energy for what IR has done to our people this year and you’re willing to just overlook it to have a fun time at the matches (watching this team suck again), are you any better than those fans who essentially helped to whitewash Khashoggi’s death for the Saudis? This is not saying they all went with the purpose of whitewashing Saudis, they likely didn’t, but their attendance and behavior helped Saudis immensely to shift the conversations away from their crimes and IR is using this World Cup in the same way.

people saying “can’t I just enjoy the football match?!?” Yes, go ahead, but history will remember you as unwitting accomplices to the normalization of the Islamic Republic. I’m sorry, but I think many of you will regret this outlook in a few years. I thought the same previously of it just being football, but I can recognize how selfish of a viewpoint that is now. Putting my own entertainment above the real atrocities happening under this flag that is being normalized in the World Cup. We did it unwillingly for decades to IR’s advantage, but it’s time to wake up.

Yes, I would prefer that. That way the players didn't have to prostitute themselves.

The regime HAS taken Iranian football away from the people. It is already theirs. You are following IR.

My feeling with team melli is like a father and son, a difficult son, a son that steals and lies and perhaps even kills. Still my son and I love him. Until he keeps killing and even rapes 15 year old girls. It hits that barrier where love turns into repulsion and anger.

people forget that “the regime” is not 1 or 2 people that do all the killings and destruction but a whole network of people from politics to sportmen that act like a glue for the Islamic Republic.

I did notice that. I also saw in 2 separate interview with JB and Ramin, where they said it was great to see all Iranians no matter what their ideology is being there and cheering. Maybe it was said in jest. Maybe it was bs, but I was interesting non the less.

I have been an ardent anti TM Melli guy since the war started. But on the other hand I believe that if we want to move forward with a new and free Iran, we would need to one day forgive some of the people we hated so much. And I do believe that some of these guys will cross the line when the time comes.

Khamenei's funeral should draw some commiseration comments from the Team IR.
