Team Melli should be banned

I understand the frustration and helplessness people feel toward the regime. But calling the players “the regime’s team” so you can protest them instead of the actual regime is a weak move. The easier target isn’t always the right one.

Actually continuing to support this team is the weakest and easiest thing to do. Putting aside a love and devotion one has had for a lifetime has been difficult.

Making uninformed judgemental comments is easy. Trying to see the logic of the a former devotee is much more educational.

I am crying as I post this. I am also drunk.

I grew up with a privileged life in America. I am an American citizen but my blood is Persian. Regardless, this regime has took the peoples voice and life literally. I supported Team Melli today but I have never felt so much shame and regret and embarrassment. I watched the game with a close American friend of mine and cried afterwards. I told them all my shame.. Not because Messi scored a late winner but because X thousand of our people have died. I am not making excuses. I have loved and followed our football for decades. Was I wrong the whole time? Are these players evil? I still don’t know.

I love Team Melli but I am really in a tough place. I have read some posts here and apparently I am supporting a murderous regime. Fair, I don’t want to argue really. Did I waste my life? Why do I still care? We didn’t win but Ramon played great. I am so proud of him.

I am just rambling. I love you all. RIP everyone that died at the hands of this regime.
