Iran was doomed for 47 years because every Iranian including myself tried to whitewash everything. We wanted to keep enjoying Iran so we defended everything about Iran for our pride.

Not knowing this indirectly helped the regime establish itself from team melli to key positions in the work field.

can you share specific examples of players attending to IRGC propaganda and dedicating goals to Khamenei? Or share specific evidence that would support the idea that anything like this has happened on a WIDE SCALE across the team (vs. just a few individuals).

I have no doubt that the regime leverages football to whitewash their crimes...in fact, i was thinking to myself: it's funny how nothing in iran works properly, yet somehow we have a top-20 national team...considering the level of neglect the IR shows to every other cultural/sporting initiative in iran, it's surprising that comparatively, team melli actually does receive a decent amount of support from the regime.

But my friends - two things can be true at once:

1) the regime benefits from sportswashing, in particular from team melli
2) the players shouldn't be targeted for fohsh, criticism, etc - they're just caught in the crossfire for the most part

What makes it the regime's team? Why was everyone supporting team melli 6-7 yeras ago but not now? what changed? the regime was as barbaric then as it is now. they were killing and hanging and torturing people then too (not at today's scale, obviously). But why did you cheer then, but not now?

None of us have any idea what kind of threat and pressure the risk these players (who for the most part, unlike most of us, LIVE IN IRAN) face.

A lot of you have been following TM for 20+ 30+ years or even longer. You saw these players come up in the ranks, we followed some of these players together from the time they were 15-16.
