You're making up a scenario that's not happening. No one is drinking tea, being happy that our people are being gunned down in the street, and simultaneously cheering for TM.

No, this has gone too far. There is absolutely no reason for a national team to play in the world cup with the current situation. Who would even cheer for them or wish them success? Who are they even playing for? People are dying in the streets and we should cheer for 11 grown men kicking a ball?

All I will say in this matter is this: the I.R. main goal at all times is "divide and conquer". And it is a sad fact, that they have been so successful at doing so. Reading this thread you can see in real time how it came to be, that the Iranian diaspora and opposition is so fractured and divided. At one hand, it seems they have perfected this method and on the other hand, it seems, us Iranians are especially vulnerable and thus our situation...

I don't know if banning them or not will make any sense, or change anything. But I do remember, the news and the videos all around the world during last world cup, when TM refused to sing the anthem... and when they were literally threatened and forced to do so in the following games and were doing it visibly unwillingly. Even some of my co-workers who never watch any sports at all talked to me about this. So with them being on the big stage, we can at least hope for some visibility both on and off the field, especially now that it is in the states. But of course, I understand the hate they are getting. However, I think sometimes we forget they are people too with families and friends and there is only so much they can actually do without putting themselves or their families at great risk. (of course, I don't mean the actual I.R. supporters inside TM)
