My advice is to trade for some other games or stay at home.

There is going to be tension outside of the stadium. There is going to be tension inside the stadium. Some or even majority of the Iran section are going to be yelling against the players....bi Sharaf bi Sharaf throughout. People will cheer for goals against IR team. The quality of the football is going to be trash, and football will take a second place to the stands.

If Iran score...you have to keep thinking about should your cheer or jeer...or should you hide your feelings (cuz all your life you want Iran to score). If you cheered....are you a traitor? Dilemma after dilemma.

At the end of the day...it will not be an enjoyable experience. You've spent all that money and you get bad memories instead of good ones. And TM will lose too...maybe very badly...IRI vs England was not fun at all.

My advice is to just do what your heart says. At the end of the day the situation is more complex than the black and white pictures our diaspora paints online and through Instagram.

At the end of the day Team Melli is an institution for the people no matter how much toxicity surrounds the team. Millions of Iranians love this team and what it stands for. From every day doctors to random mechanics in bandar abbas. Again step away from the outrage machine on Instagram and make your own decision.

This is just 2 years ago when Jahanbakhsh scored the penalty against Japan. Look at how much happiness our people had even though they live under a theocracy. For a night, it was all forgotten.

I'm in a similar bucket, but I'm looking forward to the opening game and plan to attend all three games. Its been a dream to watch TM play since the 2006 WC when I watched them and was inspired to return to soccer and play in HS. Everything going on in Iran and the world is disheartening, but these men are just people, not politicians, warlords or activists and I'm sure most would prefer not to live under threats from the US and Iranian governments. But they are proud to represent their homeland and, to that extent, I'll be proud to root for them (and any decent Iranian) next month. Can't wait to see so many of these players in person after watching them on TV and bad streams for years. And who knows, perhaps they help bridge a gap in this world today (much like the 95 South African rugby team,Mexico in 68 or Nixon's ping-pong diplomacy).
