    Neither will this TM.

Agha, we know the team is very emotional and pretty fragile, first is a moot point...

How would you be able to watch this team play in these circumstances.

We know both with the national team at last world cup, and the recent U23 in the asian cup, they can try to make a stand but regardless they will be forced to sing the national anthem as happened with both teams. They will be forced to pose with leaders before the tournament starts.

Whatever the players feel, the tentacles of IR will be over them. Where is the joy in this situation?

Dr jan, I don't understand how watching the games or not will affect things either way.
I am one of those who is more and more cynical about the masses creating change, but if they did play, you could say the people of Iran would have more visibility, for at least a few hours...

I don't want to downplay what happens in Iran, but what is putting our heads down in sadness and mourning going to do?

          System already has lost legitimacy.
Not going to World Cup is just another win for Khamenei and Alamolhoda and the like.

Let me be clear, FIFA will not ban this team, as they are just as corrupt as IRI. It is only my wish they would ban the team, but it won't happen. As it stands right now with this team, with this coach, and with the current situation, it will be a quick 3 Losses and back home. Do not get your hopes high.
                IRI = FAILED

What's the purpose of the team getting banned? Are the players playing for the government or us people?

i do think the players care a lot of them came out and protested

Sayaddmanesh (has a lion and sun tattoo )
                    Azmoun
                    Saeed Ezatolahi
                    Taremi
                    Masoud Shojaei

Ali Karimi did a long speech in LA

Even dual nationals like Aria Jasuru made protest posts which was a lot more than i expected to be honest

these are just some examples of footballers that "stood up" i can't expect all of them too i know some regimieis like Torabi , Beiro and Khalizadeh won't change and are dicks but thats the way it is statistically i can't expect a group of 25 people to have exactly the same political opinions as me and there will always be people to defend those who slaughter innocent lives

I don't think the regime will drop players for protesting as if they do that our squad is going to be way too thin for the world cup - too many have stood up against them for that to be the case

many brutal nations have competed in world cups before and players are desperate to play because its the best and easiest way for them to advertise their services to the world. I dont think any player is going to boycott this team for political reasons regardless of what the regime would do - we had the 2009 Neda protests and the Mahsa Amini in 2022 and neither of those led to anyone boycotting the team

to play at the world cup is a sacred moment in an athletes career and a 1 in a million opportunity i dont think any of these players will turn it down regardless of how bad things get . For most of this team its their last world cup in the tank and the chance to advertise themselves and get a final move for the last stages of their career - as steven beitashour said in his podcast interview of why he wanted to play for iran in the firstplace - its essentially free advertising of your skill to billions of people on earth who will tune in and watch and i dont think any football player will say no to that for moral reasons

take the world cup 2010 for example - north korea for all the shit their government has done they still had japanese born koreans opting to get a north korean passport to represent the team on the international stage - despite living in a superior country they opted to go back to the shit corrupt one for the chance to feature in the international game - that goes to show the value of the world cup and international and the majority of players dont give a f about politics they just care about the extension of their careers first and foremost

Banning Iran from International events is a move that further breaks the facade of legitimacy that IR works hard to maintain. Today the Iranian Foreign Minister was uninvited from the World Economic Forum. As Russia has been barred, so should Iran . Unfortunately FIFA won't have it in them unless Trump puts pressure on them.

Today the under 23 coach who made some good complaints against IR after the game in Lebanon, was briefly detained at the airport and his passport was confiscated.

                      Good for him.

We will have another non footballing WC for Iran...all political and all stress and poor games. It will not help anyone's career. It will tarnish their future place in society and it will be very painful experience, being heckled by swaths of spectators and being threatened by team officials to keep their mouths shut.

A boycott from the players is better than a ban. But that´s way too much to ask as that will probably put themselves and their families in danger.

As for you who say that the team plays for the people. It´s mindboggling how anyone can enjoy a team that plays football for the people of their country who dies in the streets for freedom. A shirokhorshid flag in the stands won´t change anything. We already saw that in Qatar. Media kept talking about the current state of Iran. What was the outcome? Nothing.

if the players chose to boycott they will then just be replaced by other players willing to play

it could also lead to us being banned from future world cups which will most likely be detrimental to this forum's future too - i wouldnt want that it wouldnt help regime change to happen it will just hinder us massively both now and in the future .

Media dont care about iran either way

they play for their careers and the enhancement of their careers. that's first and foremost , the people? Im not sure most these players give a rat's ass IR or no IR they will still get paid with their overinflated contracts

the day after the shootings game PGPL carried on as normal as if nothing happened - im pretty sure the wc the players will have the same attitude

It's great to see that there are people that would buy my world cup tickets should I get picked in the lottery.... Not enforcing it on others, but as someone that still didn't have this stance the last time around, Iran football is so irrelevant to me right now. If they win, then what? I'll be happy and celebrate and brag about it to my non-Iranian friends? They'll be like wtf is wrong with you? Are you saying you're sad for the people that are slaughtered but happy that the team that is supposed to represent them is winning and celebrating? sounds off.

Stephan player is arrested and family told he is on the death row:

Going to play for IRs TM is not a personal choice. It is a betrayal of the players and people.
