He didn't even fill up our roster for the last WC even though we had the oldest squads in the whole tournament.

He also invited plenty of players who were playing in the PGPL and the Khaleeji leagues.

This non-sense about "CQ would never reward out of shape or money chasers" is simple revisionism. He was just as much of a dinasaur-parast as GN.

We can debate his coaching skills and mentality, but let's not just make up stuff.
not really sure it is revisionism , the average age of Iran in 2018 was around 26.7 , all the outfield Defenders were in in their early to mid 20s (except Rezaean 28) and the only 30 year olds in the midfields were Amiri and Ebrahimi and both were in a phenomenal shape in that WC and Ezzi was 21, Azmoun Taremi and JB were all 23 to 25 yrs old, feel free to google the squad and check their age , in his time we did not have a Moghanlou or Enayati type players , I would like to think you are old enough to remember the shit show he took over in 2011 and drought we had in the team in almost every position

Every TM coach has their own Moghanlou.
A player that gets called up that no one else knows why?

For Branko it was Alavi from Foolad
For CQ it was Khanzadeh (remember him?)
      and for GN it's Moghanlou.

Khanzadeh didnt come in as sub and miss an empty goal and mostly play as the 12th man for the opposite team and he was not even used in WC , Alavi in his prime was a very decent player unfortunately he didnt really look after himself (his decline started after 2004 asian cup) , respectfully I dont agree these examples are comparable , in 2007 we had the Enayati and Khatibi situation with Ghalenoi where that lanky idiot claimed his dead body would score against Mexico and we all saw what happened when he took him to Mexico to play friendly against them, as much as I disliked Branko after the 2006 fiasco I would take him any day over this moron.

He also played Majid Hosseini and PAG rookies in Irans most important game in a decade. GN would never.

A lot of coaches are dinosaur-parast. Mourinho, Sean Dyche, any Serie A team...

Its what they do with a dinosaur that counts. CQ could make dinosaurs into at least a competent defensive side even against teams like Argentina and Nigeria. Look at our 2014 lineups against those teams. We had no business getting as close to results in those games.

I have yet to see an argument on what GN does with our dinosaurs is a good thing.

Usually its either a retort or "bazikonha zahmat keshidan" like that even matters.

At this point after NK game the only people I see defend GN in a positive light on his merit, (not on changing a coach so soon before WC instead for a bad Euro coach/Irani coach) are people who dont pick up how bad our team is but just want to watch more haram ball, hardcore Esteghlalis(not all) and Hezbollahis(which you are not).

          The reasons are self explanatory

CQ not filling the last roster spot for world
cup was such a hilariously sad decision. That’s must have been dementia or something

When GN was first appointed, I was excited because I had heard he was a serious no BS guy that would discipline players. I’m afraid he is the opposite

The goal post keeps getting moved.

First it's "CQ would never invite out of shape and old player", but when I point out that he did exactly that and in two of his three world cup appearances with us, we had the oldest squads, now it's "Well sure he did that, but he used the old players well".

If his name was Carlos Queiropour or Carlos Queirozovic, nobody would be this level of mental gymnastics to make him be something he wasn't.

As for GN, I'm not defending him, and I think he needs to be replaced today by literally anyone except a former Team Melli coach.

We have to look ahead and stop dwelling on the past.

Last WC he joined the team two months before the WC and he took players that understood his system and philosophy , nobody can prepare a team like Iran for WC in that short space of time , if he had stayed past 2019 I am pretty certain we would have had a few young players in the team similar to 2018.

I couldn't agree more, In 2014 I don't even know how we even qualified , we had no business to tie Nigeria and narrowly losing to a Messi Magic on the last kick of the game to the WC Finalist, everyone expected a 4-0 or a 5-0 against them

You know what’s depressing? No matter how much we complain, I still think we are understating how bad we are. Unfortunately, soccer is the most popular sport among us Iranians, and we are not good at it. I’m not talking about coaching and tactics. I’m saying that the current squad literally cannot shoot the ball properly or make more than 2 passes. We are doomed. And however doomed you think we are, we are actually even more doomed than that. The fundamentals are not there. RIP TM

Its just the cycle repeating itself. We used to lose to Bahrain and Saudi at home. Then CQ came and qualified us to 4 World Cups in a row with all the players he built from scratch (yes 4 because Skocic and GN are relying on his players...CQ literally hand picked ARJ for our U17 from Damash Gilan). Now that this generation is being phased out 1 by 1, we're just regressing to our true level since PGPL is probably just as bad as it was before, if not worse.

Who could he have brought that would have made a difference? Ultimately its clear for the WC he went a long with people he knew from his previous tenure.

He quite literally had 1 week friendly camp in Austria and 1 week prep camp for the Winter WC...

During Summer WCs we usually have a month long camp before the WC to implement tactics and finalize player selection.

I am not sure if you remember but one of the first things he did when he came back he called up players like 24 year old Jalali and played him at LB. Even till literally the last few days before the world cup he demanded a friendly for domestic players and he was testing out prospective youth like Aria Barzegar versus Nicaragua.

Oooh wow, a single random 24 year old (which btw isn't an age that's considered young anywhere but Iranian football).

Ghalenoi can make excuses too for why he invites people from a retirement home.

Bottom line so that both of these guys have their favorites, reward loyalty over fitness and merit and both of them invited old player.
The only reason CQ gets away with it with his cult members is his passport.

Looooool at giving CQ credit for Skocic's work. Unbelievable.

Tbh Iran played good football against Wales and Queiroz is good renewing teams. That idiot coach that we have now, which player did he scout? TM has no new names sinds 2021

Disagree. We are very much glass half full people (even when it's more than half).
We qualified half-assedly 3 months in advance.

The older I get the biggest issue we have (and so does all of Asian football by that same extent) is that we are not exposed to high level football.
No Asian club or team is going to be allowed into UEFA, so we are cursed to play at a level that can't go much higher.

We need to be thrown into the deep end and play high level football that requires more than just pure raw talent and physical advantage.

Let me get this straight. This guy who introduced the following players to Team Melli:
                                • Azmoun at 19
                                • Eza at 18
                                • Beiranvand at 22
                                • Majid Hosseini at 21
                                • PAG at 23
                                • ARJ at 20
                                • Gholizadeh at 21
                                • ETC
Came back and trusted those kids that he raised that were 26-28 year olds at the time to be the basis of his squad when he only had 2 weeks with all the players?? What a shocker man...

You're comparing GN and CQ like they are cut from the same cloth which is incredibly lacking of nuance. GN can't even trust a 23 year to play more than 30 minutes vs NK...

You're basically painting a black/white image. Always the Persepolis fans who seem to hate CQ with a passion...wonder why

what did Skocic do...we had to rely on Sardar and Taremi's ingenuity the whole time through qualifiers...

Skocic's ONLY impressive game was beating a washed up Iraq 3-0 and tying SK 1-1. I agree he was treated unfairly but come on...

My favorite moment was when his assistant coach Mario Tot was asked on Gol Bezan their tactics process and he said "Iranian heart is more important than tactics" agha velemon kon....
