Persianfootball.com – KUWAIT CITY, A second half goal from Iran skipper Javad Nekounam was enough for Kuwait SC to win their Asian Champions League round 1 qualifier versus Al Shorta of Iraq.

The Iranian veteran midfielder, who had already scored the winner and his debut goal in a 3-2 league win midweek, got to the loose ball at the edge of the area and perfectly curled the ball intoe the lower right corner.

It remained the only goal of the game and so Kuwait SC advanced to round 2 of 3, where they will take on Lokomotiv Tashkent in Uzbekistan next Saturday, also in a one-legged match-off.

The winners of the once more one-legged round 3 qualifying matches then will earn a berth in the 2014 AFC Champions League group stage.

Meanwhile Iranian national team defender Pejman Montazeri’s successful stint at Qatari club Umm Salal continued with a 3-1 win over Mojtaba Jabbari’s Al Ahli. Montazeri joined Umm Salal when they were on bottom on the table and had just won their first game of the season.

Since then, the club has won each of their five matches and climbed up to mid-table. Al Ahli are meanwhile in fourth position of the standings.
