Tehran Times – TEHRAN, Iranian football club Persepolis said the team is not going to invite Peter Schmeichel to attend the Tehran derby.

The Iranian popular club had already announced the former Manchester United goalie will be invited to Tehran to as a special guest to watch Tehran derby between Persepolis and its arch-rivals Esteghlal on Friday.

AC Milan legend Franco Baresi attended the match last year, where two teams played out a goalless draw.

“Following the 2-1 defeat against Foolad in Ahvaz, the club changed its mind and we prefer to call Schmeichel another time,” Amir Moshiri, director of Persepolis international affairs, told Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA).

Persepolis general manager Mohammad Ruyanian met Andres Christian Haugaard, ambassador of Denmark to Iran, in October. Haugaard said in the meeting he would help the Iranian football club to invite The Great Dane for derby.

Peter Schmeichel played at Manchesetr United from 1991 to 1999 and won five English Premiere League titles with the team. The iconic keeper won UEFA Champions League in 1998-99 as well.
