Ghoochannejhad scores twice and assists as Standard go European
Persianfootball.com – LIEGE, Following a 0-1 defeat to Gent in the first leg, Standard Liege booked an Europa League berth in style with a 7-0 crushing of the visitors in the return leg of the playoff in Belgium on Sunday.
After being sidelined in the first encounter, Iranian striker Reza Ghoochannejhad came on as first substitute after 59 minutes in Liege when the score was already 4-0.
13 minutes later the nimble striker beat the offside and dribbled past the keeper to make it 5-0.
Just six minutes afterwards Ghoochannejhad was denied a certain goal with a foul, resulting in a red card for the defender and a penalty kick, wich Mpoku converted to make it 6-0.
Another four minutes later the Iranian international striker made it 7-0 from close range with his second of the day and third for Standard this year after his debut goal last week.
Ghoochannejhad could have even scored an eighth goal four minutes from time, but was wasted the final opportunity.
While Standard can look forward to playing in the UEFA Europa League next season, the in-form Ghoochannejhad will now join Iran’s national team in their training camp in Dubai.
