Osasuna ask Nekounam for salary reduction
PFDC – PAMPLONA, Javad Nekounam could stay at Osasuna, should he agree to a salary reduction, ‘Navarra Sport’ reports on Saturday.
The Basques have financial problems and are unable to pay the Iranian national team captain’s salary anylonger, making it likely that Nekounam will leave the club during this transfer window.
Nekounam, who is by far the highest paid player on the roster according to the report, has a € 2.5 million clause in his contract, which had been renewed last summer with the Iranian superstar already having accepted a decrease in earnings while turning down several lucrative offers back then.
Osasuna’s management is currently in talks with the 31-year-old’s agent to negotiate a contract adaption.
Meanwhile Osasuna’s newly appointed president announced Masoud Shojaei is supposed to stay at the club. Miguel Archanco said that Shojaei’s case is not at all related to Nekounam’s simply because both players are Iranian.
Nekounam joined Osasuna in 2006 and has been one of the most influential players of the La Liga club since then.
Shojaei signed in 2008 and played two good seasons before missing the entire 2011/12 season due to a foot injury he had picked up in a league game in spring 2011.
Both player have a contract until the end of next season.
