Wolfsburg fail, Osasuna still in contention

PFDC – STUTTGART, While Wolfsburg failed to qualify for next season’s Europa League on the final Bundesliga matchday, Osasuna are still in contention after a win in the second last round.

Without the injured Ashkan Dejagah, Vfl Wolfsburg failed to hold on to a 2-0 lead in Stuttgart, finally losing 2-3 on Saturday afternoon.

However, due to Hannover’s win, even a victory by Wolfsburg wouldn’t have been enough.

The club finished in eighth position, one spot and four points behind an Europa League spot.

In Spain, Javad Nekounam and CA Osasuna recorded an important 1-0 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday evening.

Thanks to Ibrahima’s goal, Osasuna now stand in eighth position of the table, with all chances to still qualify for the Europa League on the final matchday next week.

The Basques are one point and two spots behind the needed sixth place.

Javad Nekounam played the full 90 minutes, whereas Masoud Shojaei is still on the injury list and will probably not be ready for the final round but for the beginning of next season.
