eses-2010-2PTV – TEHRAN, Tehran’s popular soccer team Esteghlal has been held to a goalless draw against Shahrdari Tabriz in the 18th week of the Iranian Premier League (IPL).

The Blues, coached by Parviz Mazloumi, created several opportunities to score but failed to win the home game at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Saturday.

The match was originally slated for Friday, but was postponed due to the air pollution in the Iranian capital city.

In the first half, the two sides did not play a good football and performed a boring match. Just before the break, both sides reduced to ten as Iman Mobali from Esteqlal and Rasoul Pirzadeh from Shahrdari were handed red cards.

Mazloumi’s men kept pressing forward with an offensive style in the second half to break the deadlock, but came short and settled for the scoreless draw.

As a result of the draw, Esteqlal remains in the second spot with 34 points, two points adrift of the league pacesetter Zobahan. Mes Kerman sits third on 31 points.

On Thursday, Tabriz-based club Teraktorsazi defeated Tehran’s soccer team Persepolis to jump to the 5th spot of the table on 28 points. Persepolis, under Ali Daei, once again showed a poor performance and Karrar Jassim’s solo extended the losing streak for the capital-based Reds to four. Persepolis now sits 7th in the IPL table with 27 points.
