Saw a documentary (and read the whole biography) of the para cyclist Bahman Golbarnejad, that died in paralympics Rio 2016. Devastating.

    Hezar mashalla be Ariane aziz.

Such a solid bloke. I started to google and found this interview too.

Couldnt help cracking a few tears hearing about his story. Going from having rheumatism in the legs being unable to walk as a kid to winning olympic gold. Losing for 8 straight years not giving up.

    A real role model.

Iran has less sports represented in paralympics than in olympics!

We should really break our culture of obsession on football (+futsal), volleyball, wrestling that represent 80% of the sports shown and talked in Iran to open it to more mainstream sports.

Athlete from Georgia won the super heavy weight lifting with 470kg total.

    Weightlifting: Georgia's Lasha Talakhadze wins men's +102kg

Lasha Talakhadze can now call himself a three-time Olympic champion!

In three consecutive Olympic Games, he has won the heaviest men's weight category.

The Georgian lifted 215kg in the snatch and 255kg in the clean & jerk for a total of 470kg.

Armenia's Varazdat Lalayan takes silver on 467kg, while Gor Minasyan representing Bahrain wins bronze on 461kg.

How much did Rezazadeh lift in total back in 2004? I am surprised there weren't any weight lifting medals for Iran in this Olympics.

Here are the list of sports for LA2028. IMO, what should Iran do :
    • Sports that Iran should keep on winning medals/start winning medals : Wrestling, Weightlifting, Taekwondo, Fencing.
    • Sports that Iran should have a presence/increase its presence (even without medal chances) : Swimming, Water polo (we are just behing Kazakhstan to qualify for world Cship/Olympics), Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball (hopefully the young prospects will blossom), Basketball 3x3, Canoeing, Cycling, Field Hockey, Football, Handball (don't know why our eurolegionnaires aren't enough to qualify regularly for world events), Rowing, Shooting, Sport climbing, table tennis, Tennis, Volleyball (get a good foreigner coach), beach volley
    • Sports that it aren't priority but would still be nice to have presence: squash, gymnastic, Judo, equestrian, skateboarding, triathlon
    • Sports that should neglected : Baseball, cricket, flag football, golf, lacrosse, modern penthatlon, rugby sevens, sailing, surfing
We have asian games of 2026 to see in which direction we are heading

Federations should do like taekwondo and volleyball 10 years. Currently, a lot of iranian athletes go far only with their personnal efforts and that can also be the case in Western countries too. However, increasing the infrastructure (even average quality so lot of people can have access) + media coverage could help. quantity over quality could be a first step at least

Football is too important (like in lot of place in the world) but its presence in media is too much. Decrease it as no need to show all the EPL games + magazines + talk show from the morning to the night. No need to show every non TM VNL games also. Instead create some space to show/hype even artificially :
    • world/euro swimming, athletics, waterpolo, handball tennis table... Cship
    • Cycling Tour de France, Vuelta (Spain), Giro (Italy)
    • Tennis Grand slams + some ATP100

Lol, just watched the replay: On the Algerian team, they focused on the female boxer who was in the center of all the controversy. It's all dumbed down identity politics in the Western media.
