Mexico was impressive during the Confed cup 2005. Angola drew Portugal or Mexico. Portugal went to the semis.
At least I enjoyed more that wc than the last one. Our first half against Mexico and the equalizer just before half time was the last time I jumped from my chair for a TM WC game. Brank had the best squad but you forget we were in severe shortage of left back, GK during that time.

That world cup was hell. I went to all three games of both world cups and I thought 2014 was so much better, with a squad which had much less talent and depth. We were embarrassing in Germany. In Brazil we gave a good account of ourselves and neutrals were finally paying attention to Iran for the first time since 98

Damn i wish we had either our 2014 or 2006 groups with this team...

^^^ that team had players in Bayern, Bochum, Hannover, Kaiserslautern, Hamburg AND Messina. Heck, we even had a young Nekounam and Shojaei who would go on and have phenomenal careers in La Liga and a Teymourian talented enough to play in the EPL. Talent wise, that group of players is the best we've ever had.
Fast forward to today. We're just happy if we have players in the Dutch, Russian, greek and Belgium league .....

I still say it would have been a more reliable bench had we taken Hosseini instead of either khanzadeh or majid Hosseini, both of whom will not set foot on the pitch most probably.

Well one thing is for sure, this team is weaker than their 98 team! Was just watching world cup 98 highlights and boy their team back then was something else!

So what’s the purpose of cutting the list to 24?
Apparently Gholizadeh still travels with the team to Russia but can’t play. ThAts going to be the case for about 5 or 7 other players too so I don’t get it. Happy that he at least gets to experience the WC.
