Damn this makes me really nervous!
From the statistics we played really sh!t against 2 weak teams... They were faster, stronger and created many opportunites. One thing that we should try, is to play someone like Majid Hosseini in front of the Def.
Thats something Real Madrid likes to do when they play against Barcelona.

I suggested earlier that Pouraligangi is capable as a defensive midfielder. Great header of the ball that can protect the two center backs. I believe a veteran presence like Montazeri matched with a younger CB like Majid Hosseini could provide us with a fairly tight back line flanked by Mohammadi and Rezaeian against Morocco.

Love these analyses. They makes a lot of CQs decisions more clear. However I still don't get why he cut Kaveh.. He would suit CQs tactics for the Morocco game much better than Gucci or even Ansarifard IMO..
He deserves to be there at least as a back up after his good season. He also has great stamina, he played a total of 41 games this season, more than any of our other options.

But man do I hate Ezatollahi right now for missing the first game..

This has absolutely ZERO to do with who leads on the field. Hosseini played almost his entire career in Iran but was seen as a leader.

Azmoun is greatly respected and looked up to by his teammates. He has scored against some of the best teams in the world. His personality and talent make him a natural leader.

Don't be surprised if you see him wearing the captain's arm band soon.

Have you seen several games against Arab nations where Sardar tries to always fight them. Qatar game is the prime example. I want a leader that could gather his troops and prevent such things from happening.. I have never seen Seyd Jalal start fights or talk smack in the media. Hajsafi has never done that either.

I think me and you are on the same page that the back line is very much vulnerable without Seyd Jalal. I am hoping a miracle happens where Jalal gets called back up to the squad. A part of me wants Khanzadeh to get annihilated in the next two friendlies.

Its about time that TM finds a new leader. These players have been on this team for years now. Azmoun looks like a good candidate. So does Haj Safi.

he sure looked like phenomenal young talent in Uzb game, but he didnt look all that and a bag of chips in the prior friendly vs the more veteran African squds..!
i like to see him tried out vs Turkey, see if he can show up vs a quality opponent before trusting to give the kid any game time at WC...!

He played much better against the so called veteran African team recently. He seems to be a revelation.

I remember an interview with Azmoun where he said CQ told him that "he is not ready for this WC".

Do you not think that Azmoun's bright-eyed confidence and pace may have been useful against Bosnia - when all our forwards looked physically and emotionally tired? The guys had just come off a rich vein of form with a few goals against Rostov, Zenit and Krylia.

I think he would have been a more useful member of the 23 man squad than, say, Beikzadeh. Again, the positives of that world cup and his decisions vastly outweigh my disagreements with him.

Bachelot, you make some reasonable points, but can we all just conclude that Jalal Hosseini is out for now? He may come back in due to injury, but CQ believes this is our best team he has chosen. I would hate to put a monkey-wrench into whatever he has planned. We are around 3 weeks away, and we shouldn't be focusing on negativity around the call-ups. We should be focusing on seeing the positives in the opportunity to display our progress since 2014.

Even if we lose all 3 games, Iran and Iranian players' profile has increased dramatically in the last couple of years. EA Sports who perpetually ignored Iran was forced to acknowledge a guy like Jahanbakhsh for his amazing season, and even scanned the faces of 3 of our players for this edition of their world cup game.

Our future is very bright, and looking to short-term success over building potential future star-names like M. Hosseini is unnecessary. Seyed Jalal wouldn't have much more legs past June, and we cannot rely on him forever. We are planning to take back the Asian crown, and we need our young players experienced. Expectations for us are quite low, so CQ will look to the future, while trying his best to have success in this group of death.

If Iran were drawn with Panama, Peru, and Poland, you can bet your bippy that CQ would have fielded Jalal Hosseini and gone for the Round of 16 heavily. Instead, he has opted to push for the future. A guy like M. Hosseini will benefit a lot from the WC experience against Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Putting Jalal Hosseini in and losing to Spain or Portugal won't help us much down the line. M. Hosseini will need to rise to the challenge as Jalal Hosseini would have. CQ believes in the youngsters, and so should we. Why can't M. Hosseini be our superstar of the tournament? We really need to put him in there to find out.
