I just don't get why Taremi would come so deep to help defenders. If he helps the midfield it is ok but his red was because of a defensive error cause he was too deep in our defence.
He is not a defender hence his tackle was late and he got his 2nd.
Our main problem is still in the midfield in my opinion as if we had a strong midfield he would never have to try to help there.

The only reason he was there is because Cheshmi decided to pretend like he was prime R9 and drove up to the 18 yard like with the ball, gave it away very cheaply, then Mohebi who was on a yellow failed to jostle his man off the ball, and the only person who had the wherewithall to cover Chesmis giant gaping hole in the back line was Mehdi who mistimed his tackleOriginally posted by webmaster View PostI just don't get why Taremi would come so deep to help defenders. Can we all just agree that cheshmi the cement truck, should be nowhere near TM anymore. I’ve said it time and time again, appreciative for his Wales goal but he needs to stop dining on that, and not be playing for TM. I get it was hard for this game, given the lack of defenders we had, but he can’t be trusted anymore

Makes sense but of course a striker can not do good tackles because he dose not practice this and hence he messed up the timing. I guess Taremi wants to do everything in TM and hence he forgets his own game plan.Originally posted by TM4LIFE View Post

I've hated his starting line-ups and subs pretty much the entire tournament so far, and not just in this game (this game was the worst yet), but if they did in fact make it a priority to seriously practice PKs as a team then kudos to GN - Cups are often won and lost by PKs.Originally posted by Azmoun_shireh View Postlol knowing General and his trauma, he probably spent all the training on practising penalties and zero tactics - The pens were all top notch!

Also I yet again have to mention the obligatory Ramin was being found on the LEFT wing at some points in the game, leaving Cheshmi and Taremi to have to cover for him. May we please start Yousefi now....Originally posted by webmaster View Post

The balance to the formation is clearly all wrong and urgently needs addressing. If GN doesn’t play 3 in cm against Japan as the good Dr points out, we may as well switch off and reclaim our weekend.
People saying we are being bold and attacking don’t seem to realise that it’s counterproductive to our attacking play to be so unbalanced. It creates immense pressure on us in possession when so open to being hit on transition and any mistake could be punished. This was pointed out by GN himself in the pre match comments, shifting the blame for potential mistakes to the players, rather than understanding the problem. It was also evidenced in the hesitancy and lack of fluidity in our build up play.
As soon as we went a player down this was addressed by the enforced rigidity of 10 - Ansarifard’s discipline and Ebrahimi’s tenaciousness helped - and we actually looked more comfortable.

Didn't have a chance to finish this, so here is the rest:Originally posted by diz View PostPost match interviews:
Omid Ebrahimi: the team discussed on the field that we will do this in Taremi's honor. We won't get scored on and we'll get to penalties
Ramin: We made the match difficult for ourselves. Syria was still afraid of TM even with 10 men.
Beiro: It was a difficult match.
Beiro: We were all worried about and thinking about Mehdi, and his energy was very helpfull
Taremi: The fact that we won is the most important thing. Ali (Beiro) gave me a lot of energy and support. I told him if you are the best Asian goalkeeper, it's time to show it now (before the PKs). I was just praying that we get to penalties because Ali and the boys will do it. We practice a LOT of PKs this past week.
ARJ: after becoming 10, we have so much faith in Ali (Beiro), that we said let's give all our life for the next 30 minutes (of added time) to get to penalties. The penalty takers were all world class.
Karimi: The energy that our dear people gave us and prayed for us, I kiss their hands. When we got to Penalties, I told all the boys, don't worry at all. Mehdi Taremi is such a source of pride for our national team.

Putting the blame on your players in a post game interview instead of being accountable in trying to fix your tactics and learning from the mistakes you made as a manager; Talk about RED FLAGS in a coach and a big NO NO in the professional world...Originally posted by zereshk-ali View PostThe balance to the formation is clearly all wrong and urgently needs addressing. I thought Ghaedi was our only player who showed some short moments of brilliance, but still nothing close to what we expected from him. And that little hope of Ghaedi magic that could've ended in scoring more goals vanished when he was unbelievably subbed out by GN.
The whole team was just horrendous today, the never-ending yellow cards gradually became our worst nightmare. It just baffled me how easily we volunteered for these stupid yellow cards.
I strongly believe our football teams need a psychologist. Because we have always struggled with our mental collapse, especially against these Arab nations. Mind you the games against Bahrain, Lebanon, Qatar, UAE, Iraq, etc. caused an emotional collapse.
Anyhow, any of you guys watching these guys channel? I really like their channel:

I just gotta say thank you to the players!
This is only the second time I’ve ever seen Iran go down to 10 men and not collapse (other time was when Shojaei got the red).
Also, this is the first time I’ve ever seen TM win in penalties. I can’t believe Haji NASA was kicker number 5 and he hit it perfectly. I don’t know what it is, overall when I see a left footed penalty taker it makes me more nervous no idea why? But damn first time I’ve ever been happy in shootouts since Perspolis in the ACL.
waking up at 3.30 am on Saturday, make us proud boys. Going to be a lot do recovery sessions I assume. Not much time for tactics.
For Japan it appears the way to beat them is crowd the middle to stop their interplay. Bully them off the ball and send in crosses to Azmoun. Or take long range shots for their trash goalie to concede or give a corner. It is time for payback From the last AC.--------------------------Beiranvand-------------------

Where to start.
1. I don't mean to go backwards, but I really have to. This is the difference between now and the Quieroz era. We'd have sliced through this team with a comfortable 1-0 or 2-0 win under his management. We put away these minnow-type teams quite easily. Some of the offensive sequences from Ghalenoi's team have been really fun to watch (e.g. UAE game and some stretches today) and we rarely had a chance to enjoy that beautiful technical offensive football under CQ. But there's a reason for it - our players are too undisciplined and prone to mistakes to play this style against real competition.
2. Japan: the concerns over fitness and fatigue are a bit overstated in my opinion. we have potentially 2 fresh CBs in Majid and Kanani, plus Taremi's replacement, plus Ghoddos/AJB who didn't play much and likely a sub for Ghaedi - that's 5-6 fresh players. Plus Ehsan and Ramin who are both physical speciments even in their 30s. It's Saeed, Azmoun, Shoja I'm worried about. At the same time, Japan's probably the most conditioned team in Asia so even a slight show of fatigue by TM might be fatal. In 2019, I rated our chances 55/45 in our favor. Here, I think it's realistically 65/35 in Japan's. We have a chance, but it's not a good one. I'd say our chances against Japan are comparable to our chances going into the 3rd game of the WC against the US or Bosnia. A puncher's chance, but it'd be an upset if we'd won and would likely require some luck or major curveballs (red cards, fluke goal, etc.) to overcome being outplayed. A better question than "will we win" is: "will we outplay Japan"? And I think the answer there is "no". We have NO REASON to expect to win, which might benefit TM coming from an underdog position as I think all the pressure is on Japan here. We're playing with house money.
I can't believe we're facing Japan without Taremi AGAIN. Bright side is, we'll have him fully rested if we somehow squeak by Japan.
3. Ghalenoi: someone for the life of my explain why Saman was taken out at that point in the game.
4. Our restructuring after the red card was very impressive. We almost looked like a CQ-era team playing South Korea or something. Great mental discipline and effort out there.
5. Players: Azmoun's talent is undeniable but his form isn't there at the moment. He looks exactly like a player who's averaged 15 mins/game for the past year at an elite club. Cheshmi is slow and doesn't have a very high football IQ though he does win every aerial and is an asset on set piece/corner kick defense. AJB played his best game in a long time and we'll need his confidence but man, Gholi is so clearly superior. We're blessed to have both.
6. Torabi: we need this guy on the field. He's an athletic machine, plays defense, physical, can go 120 mins. Plus he's a pair of fresh legs.
I wouldn't worry too much about our performance. Syria's hard to break down and truthfully, like UAE, they had nothing in this game. This could have easily been 3-0.
I just hope the players can emotionally / physically recover in time to play this idiotically-timed Japan match.
