Rewatched the 96 semifinal, nostalgic! Crazy how the game didn't have any goals during 120 min. Except Azizis goal, which was clearly offside lol.
I have to say Saudi was a bit better than us that night. They hit the bar twice and Nakisa made a fantastic save from a header off a corner in the 2nd half of extra time. We had some great chances too, but Saudi GK was a monster that night. Watching the scene again after all these years, i still can't believe how he saved Daei's header in the 2nd half.

A clear penalty wasn't called on Estli in the 2nd half.

Abedzadeh was subbed in during extra time and saved 2 penalties.

Our penalties were terrible. Daei, Yazdani and Khakpour all missed and we lost.

Practice & hard work? Luis Enrique ordered each of the spanish players to practice 1000 PK’s before the WC. Look how that turned out for them.

It has more to do with mental strenght and experience. Several croatian players had experienced winning 2 shootouts in the 2018WC, giving them mental strenght to succeed yet again in 2022WC.
