For me WC22 will always go down as a missed opportunity. And that missed opportunity was because of a tarso coach with no balls playing for a draw from min 1.

Some of our most embarrassing performances were under CQ. England 22, Orlando Pirates, Bosnia, Japan...drawing war torn Syria twice. Even so we had some nice victories but nothing consistent despite employing the same tactics against all opponents.

Still none of CQ victories or draws compare to Scotland 78, Iran USA 98, or Australia in the playoffs. Those were bigger games under bigger circumstances.

Yeah we might be a little too harsh on Heshmat and Talebi. Scotland 1978 was our first draw, and USA 98 our first win after all.

But from 2006 onwards (when we were not newcomers anymore) the goal has always been to qualify for the 2nd round. The result has been 4 failed attempts, with CQ being responsible for 3 of them.

Carlos gained 8 points (2 wins) at the World Cup and almost took Iran to the round of 16 in the "Group of Death" at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. 4th place at 2019 Asian Cup.

I agree about how it looks when a coach participates at 3 different World Cups and still doesn't manage to qualify his team out of the group stage. No excuses for CQ. It was disappointing that we didn't at least draw against the US given our performances versus Argentina and Spain under CQ in the past.

But I still doubt Skocic would have gotten us anything more than a point. I stand by that. No disrespect to Skocic as no other coach would have been able to get us out of the hole Juan Perron left us in. Big respect to Coach Skocic for doing his best and qualifying us as group leaders. But his experience would not have been enough at the World Cup. It's just my opinion.

You literally don't give him an ounce of credit for anything. Or point out any extenuating circumstances. Everything is his fault. I can admit his faults: overly emotional with referees, holds grudges, sometimes has bad lineups, and comes off as overly paranoid. But I can also point out the success he had with TM too. If you don't see any of that, there is no point in even continuing a discussion.

I love CQ to have a seat forever at TM, but we all have to face the reality that he is getting older. He is not the young CQ that we all loved. I would like to see be an Assistant Coach for TM and scout, but we need to have a younger, professional, and personally Iranian head coach. We can't have an old and respected CQ yelling in English for some of our players to understand. It would be best to have the coach speak in Farsi/Persian when it comes to the games. Maybe give Ghotbi (experienced), Poya Asbaghi (young, but promising, but unlikely to come), or Amir Azrafshan (also young, but yet to be tested) a chance. Outsiders are a bit better, and we need a new face who can think outside of the box and get more familiar with our game and what our boys can do.
