Many people forget the dark ages we fell into after WC 2006. CQ single-handedly brought us out of it, qualifying us to back to back world cups, and giving us the best WC results in team melli history in 2018.

It’s because of CQ that we always expect to effortlessly qualify for each WC now, it’s because of CQ we had players like Dejagah & Gucci in the squad, and Ghoddos now.

Most importantly, you see how he developed the team in terms of fitness, tactics, depth, and player development from WC2014 to WC2018.

He only had a few months with the team. Of course he’s forced to play with an aging squad. He definitely has his flaws as a coach. In spite of it all, we were actually quite close to drawing USA in the final match.

The combination of having a black & mentality plus lack of gratitude will only halt our progress. If we can get someone who’s at least on the same level as CQ, then great. If not, then we should be lucky to still have a coach like him.

Btw, if it wasn’t for CQ, Taremi most likely would not be tearing it up at Porto right now.

Based on your interpretation, the last time team melli has "not" failed was in 1976 when we won the Asian Cup. We have pretty much always "failed," even before CQ.

This is the exact black & white reasoning I'm referring to. When CQ initially got hired, the realistic goal was to simply qualify to the WC. He did it twice, unprecedented in our history, and RAISED our expectation to always qualify now. If you don't see progress in our tournament performance/results from when CQ first got hired till 2019, then we just view reality very differently. The fact is, in today's modern game, if you want to "succeed" in tournaments, it requires much, much more than a competent head coach. You need a competent football federation, proper youth investment, friendlies, etc. We badly fail in those 3 factors.

Also, it's unfair to count Qatar 2022 against him. He only had a few months. To complain about CQ, and not offer a realistic alternative head coach who's at least on the same level as him, is asking for us to go back to Pre-CQ era, aka our most recent Dark Age of Team Melli.

I think you overrexagerrate the 5 tournaments things.
2 were AC, which personally I don't care but one we get out after PK and an horrible referee and the other we reached semi final and lost against an asian powerhouse he mainly lost against.

Wc 2014 and 2018, every people were predicting we will get trashed by Argentina, portugal and Spain. As it didn't happen, people are now pooroo and think we should have done better as if we suddenly became Japan!

Between 2019 and wc, people were criticizing IFF for letting CQ go, were following CQ in Colombia and Egypt like groupies (don't remember the thread about cq during afcon), were killing themselves when cq reach afcon final, etc..

Before wc2022, people were predicting 3 straight loss. Now, just because cq with only 2 months couldn't do miracles and didn't do more than our first wc win against a European country is now the worst shit even

Lets compare his majesty CQ to the peasant Skocic. TM post 2006 WC was in much better shape than when Skocic took over post Wilmots on the verge of disqualification. Resources given to CQ was much better than Skocic. The term of the contract was much longer than Skocic. The amount of camps and friendlies available to CQ was much better than Covid era Skocic. And yet CQ barely qualified us for 2014 WC while Skocic gave us our easiest qualification ever. We don't know how Skocic would have done in 2022 WC and much less in 2026 WC to compare it with 2018 WC of CQ. Particularly, if Skocic was given a win in 2026 by a team that dominated us and then decided to score an own goal in the dying minutes of the game.

And yet our easiest qualification came under Skocic. And what is all this watermelon we put under CQ's armpits? Dejagah and Gucci joined Iran after it became clear to them that they won't make the senior national teams of Germany and Netherlands. God bless them and I have no problem with that. That is the way it works everywhere. But to say that they joined because of CQ and they would not have joined under other coaches is just made up. Do we have any example of a player that was of Dejagah and Gucci's caliber that knew that they will play no role under their country of residence national team and yet refused to play for Iran?

Ghoddos was borderline whether he could get into Sweden's national team or not and thought he could come in to Iran's national team and advance his career. Again, god bless him for choosing Iran but lets not give random credit to CQ for it.

Your two comments contradict each other. You imply that he understand the importance of fitness, tactics, etc... which are not doable in a few months, and yet he worked very hard to take over exactly two months before WC... Great coach or opportunist?

And btw, I think our best WC was 1998 as far as fitness, tactics, etc... If I could go back in time and attend only one of TM's WCs, it would most definitely be 1998.

Again, we have had Dayi, Mahdavikia, etc... in Europe way before CQ step foot in Iran. Dayi's clubs and Mahdavikia's clubs must have checked in with some of Iran's Croatian coaches such as Ivic and some domestic coaches too and asked for some tapes and recommendations, etc... It's just that those coaches were not as good a politician to make the player feel he owes everything to them.

Just like the long list of Iranian players going to Portugal post Taremi's successes, a long list of Iranian players went to Germany post Dayi, Mahdavikia, Bagheri's successes. It is only natural. And to only have Taremi as an example after such a long time at the helm of TM is almost a failure for CQ.
