Apart from the obvious optics of US forcing IR enemies to camp in Mexico, I wonder if a major reason is to prevent any player seeking asylum. If the team was staying in the US, an asylum seeker could not be deported to Iran. But if they are based on Mexico, an asylum seeker could be turned over to Mexico.

It's not inconceivable that a few players have some remnant of some long lost honor and maybe what happened to the Women's team plays out again.

No. No visas have been issued or will be issued until June 1st when the final list team list is submitted to Fifa. Right now its a preliminary list and up to 6 players will be cut. But if he is in the final list, he will be given a visa indeed yes.

One of the Gol Bezan reporters indicated that the final tune up versus Puerto Rico is back on. Given the training camp shift to Mexico, this seems reasonable.

So Gambia, Mali, and then a closed door versus PR in Tijuana. Less than ideal, but we're lucky its not Belgium up first.

With logistics hopefully resolved, biggest questions at this point in my mind are: Azmoun's potential return and our striker situation (Eckert must be getting plenty of eyes on how he fits in) to unlock New Zealand's defense, and how to prepare our own defense for Belgium and Egypt's speed as to avoid a 6 - 2 result against world class attackers in the WC.

Still not over Hosseinnejad's exclusion. Will see what June 1 brings.

Also, anyone find the current WC kits for sale?

    “Hello,

I want to say a few words from the bottom of my heart regarding issues that may have worried many people, and because some misunderstandings led to rushed judgments about me.

For years — even before I was 17 and before Mr. Queiroz invited me to the Iranian national team — I had many big financial offers from other countries. But my only answer was that I am a son of Iran, and I love playing for my country and making my people happy.

Whenever I wore the national team shirt, I promised myself that every time I played for Iran, I would give my absolute best to make happy the people who passionately follow football, especially the children in the most remote cities and villages who become happy with our victories.

I have always proudly played for my national team. When we won, I was proud of myself and my teammates, and when we lost, I was as upset as anyone else.

I love football, and I love the good people of Iran — people who have always given me energy with their kindness and unconditional support.

Maybe many of you have seen some of the small things I was able to do out of love: from booking entire hotels during the 12-day war for the safety of dear people, to providing drinking water for flood-stricken villages in Golestan, and also supporting women’s volleyball, basketball, and cycling — all just a small part of my love for Iran and Iranians. Even today, I have never stopped trying to support my people.

Wherever I play football, my identity, my heart, and my pride are Iran.

I am a footballer, and everything I have achieved in life has first come from God’s grace, and then from hard work and the love and support of my dear people. Because of this love, I will always remain grateful to the people of my country.

I wish success and pride for our national team players, coaching staff, and especially Amirjan in the World Cup. God willing, boys, bring victory and make the hearts of the Iranian people happy.”

Sucks, but not much out there right now. I thought Infantino promised to help Iran prepare, given all that is going on right now. Where is that help?

I know this sounds delusional, but Brazil on June 10 in the US or Mexico is doable and their government may have incentive to do it, plus it is good prep for their own matches. Ivory Coast (ranked 34) or Algeria (28) might be excellent for that June 9 in or near the US. Panama (ranked 33) still could do a June 10 game. Heck, I'd even take a friendly vs the Catalonia national football team on the way from Turkey to the US and just play it in Spain. But they need more than one friendly. Puerto Rico (in/near the US) and Tajikistan (in Turkey) are two available options that at least provide us with quantity, if not quality.
