Goal – NAIROBI, FKF President Sam Nyamweya reveals to Goal that Harambee Stars will play Iran before connecting to Congo Brazzaville for 2017 Afcon qualifier.

Football Kenya Federation have confirmed that Harambee Stars will play Iran in an international friendly next month.

The federation President Sam Nyamweya says the match will act as a build up to their June Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo Brazzaville away. “We have been invited to play Iran and want to use this match as a build up to our Nations Cup fixture against Congo. We plan to have the team fly directly to Congo from Asia,” Nyamweya told Goal on Saturday.

He further announced that all foreign-based players are expected to fly directly to Iran to join the team for the friendly. “All plans have been finalised to have the players go directly to Iran for the fixture. We want to have good preparations for the team and it will be good to play a top side such as Iran.”

Goal exclusively reported earlier this week that Iran had invited Kenya for a friendly. The Iranian Football Association officially sent a formal request to Football Kenya Federation requesting for the match.
