Mohammad Khakpour Appointed As Coach of Iran U-23

Tehran Times – TEHRAN, FFIRI has decided that former Iran international Mohammad Khakpour will be the new coach of Irans U-23 National Olympic team, also known as Team Melli Omid.

Iran Football Federation has finally chosen Mohammad Khakpour as the U-23 team head coach on Tuesday.

Khakpour will be Iran’s Olympic football team coach until 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The former Team Melli defender, who was one of Iran national team member in the 1998 World Cup in France, has a national “A” coaching license. He was appointed as Steel Azin head coach in 2010 but resigned after just three month.

Zlatko Kranjcar, Mehdi Tartar and Mansour Ebrahimzadeh were also among the candidates.

The Iranian Football Federation (IFF) parted company with Nelo Vingada as Iran Olympic head coach in November.

The Portuguese coach was sacked from his post following the poor results in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.

Iran football team has not participated in the Olympics since 1976 Montreal.
