Qatar replace Rajevac with Lazaroni
AFC – DOHA, Qatar parted ways with their Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac and appointed local club side Qatar SC’s Brazilian coach Sebastiao Lazaroni as his successor on Sunday.
Lazaroni has managed leading teams including his native side at the 1990 World Cup in Italy.
Qatar had failed to impress under Rajevac’s short stint as the team suffered losses to minnows India, in a friendly, and Vietnam, in the away leg of the 2014 Asian Zone World Cup qualification second round, recently.
In spite of the defeat, Qatar made it to the third round with a 4-2 aggregate win.
Lazaroni took over the reins and trained the national team at the Al Sadd Stadium on Sunday.
Rajevac had replaced Bruno Metsu in the wake of the AFC Asian Cup 2011 when the Frenchman was sacked after the team stumbled in the quarter-finals.
