It's actually very straight forward. All you have to do is declare your marriage to vezarat omor khareji and you are given citizenship. Many choose not to do so for various reasons. I even know of a Canadian lady who had decided not to and tried to use Canadian passport as a means of avoiding legal issues in Iran during a vacationing trip and was told she is Iranian by marriage and thus Iranian law fully applies to her.
