-clearances off the line are attributed to good performance of the opponents defender - terry deserves to be applauded for positioning himself so well and reacting so fast to that ball and giggs deserves to be castrated for missing such an opportunity. this is no luck, this is a direct result of players of the 2 teams!
-"lucky" deflections are poor clearances, positioning, covering by ur defenders and ur GK not being able to make a better exit/dive/save. - if ur defenders cant mark lampard or arent as quick and smart to mark him to clear a deflection and leave him hanging around loose near ur penalty area, its not luck - its lampards brilliance and instinct to be able to convert from manchester uniteds defense mistakes. that "lucky" deflection as u call it was a deflection for both teams, but how come lampard was able to grab it but not any of man utds defenders or GK??? AGAIN, NO LUCK INVOLVED! INFACT, LAMPARD SCORED WILE GIGGS DIDNT - THIS IS NOT LUCK BUT PLAYERS ROLE!

If it was bad luck, then Chelsea had it coming having been through a CL campaign where they faced such mighty sides as Schalke and Rosenborg and this season's over acheivers Fenerbahche (like Monaco of 2003/04), before finally getting tested against Liverpool in the semis - and a LUCKY own goal by Riise just to put emphasis on luck. While United had to deal with Roma 4 times, Lyon and Barcelona to reach the final.

Also, Chelsea were riding their share of luck this season - cant believe how THAT was a penalty on some dodgy handball call on Carrick at Stamford Bridge when Ballack stepped up and scored the winner against us to slash the gap. Yes poor luck meant that hitting the wood twice costed them goals, but were Chelsea the better side throughout for 120 minutes ? No. It was a game of two halves. United should have been 3-0 up before a pin-ball machine deflections and a slip from Van Der Sar allowed Lampard to get a goal. Same with Chelsea, Drogba's ambitious shot could have made the difference, and Lampard's shot could have also, and Terry's miss in the penalties could have won the Cup for them.

But sooner or later your luck runs out.

Tough luck, we faced the same damn bad luck in 2005 FA Cup final against Arsenal where we hit the wood god knows how many times for 120 minutes - and Arsenal's first shot on target was a lame freekick straight at Roy Carroll by Van Persie in 2nd half of extra time, only to finally lose in penalties via just a missed kick by Scholes.

Shit happens, otherwise there is no fun or unpredictibility or lessons learned in life.

great match, great result, both sides had great chances and failed to convert, be it a shot off the post, a goal line clearance, doesnt matter, end result was 1-1

chelsea fans are gonna continue to downplay Man U's play to justify to themselves y they lost and CR7 haters are gonna downplay his play and focus on him missing that penalty because they hate to see "that fag" win another one

regardless, very very exciting match, i hated it to go to PKs because i hate PKs and i told the manager at work that i had to go let the furniture guys into my apartment and they only gave me a time window 1-4 so i didnt kno when i would be back

No this final was more intense and more entertaining one than the cure for insomnia of a final back in 2003. Both teams were equal, gave their all, were unlucky for not scoring more goals and burying the game much earlier...but football is also a test of nerves and not just fancy plays.

Chelsea was playing brutaly but then again Tevez was returning the favour. This is probably the only reason why I was happy United one, because they were the better team.

I think Drogba's slap hurt his hand more than it hurt Vida's face. The man has a concrete head. At least Vidic did not do the weak in the knees shot in the face routine - and he was absolutely off his top and would have literally pummelled Drogba into a pulp had it not been for 3-4 players holding him back.

chelsea was the better team but the point of the game has absolutely nothing to do with outplaying your opponent, but rather to make the ball cross your opponents goal line more than it happens to yours through any means. however, outplaying your opponent sometimes helps. congrats to man u.
