Los Blancos’ disgraced former supremo is about to wreak havoc in the club’s upcoming summer presidential elections…

Just hours after reportedly severing all official ties with Real Madrid, Ramon Calderon has dropped a bombshell as he is reportedly preparing to submit his candidacy for the presidential elections which will be held this summer.

Earlier on Thursday evening, he had told Marca that he is now a “nobody” at Real Madrid and has no professional affiliation whatsoever with the club, but the paper now believes that he has swooped in under the radar and is threatening to put together his candidature for the elections.

AS, meanwhile, is certain that Calderon is running not because he intends to win, since he is unlikely to get much support from the voting public or from any managers or directors willing to back his campaign, especially after the debacle in the tainted General Assembly. Instead, he supposedly has three other key reasons for throwing his name into the hat.

His top priority is to appear in front of the masses to clear his name, defend his innocence and restore his personal honour after being forced to step down following accusations that he had a part to play in rigging the Assembly.

Secondly, he wants to challenge the person seen as the favourite to take control of the ‘White House’, Florentino Perez, by appearing in debates face to face, on TV, and on radio to derail the construction mogul’s plans to re-ignite the Galacticos era. And to a certain extent, he wants to ensure that Perez will not be voted in to power by default in the event that he becomes the only candidate come election time.

Finally, Calderon wants to demonstrate that he still has some show of support at Real Madrid, roughly 18,000-strong who are fans of Jose Bernabeu, the person in charge of the Penas (supporters club), who was recently dismissed by Vicente Boluda. The idea behind that is to seek out and form a group of ‘rebel’ fans who will oppose the idea of Perez reclaiming the presidency.

Calderon is expected to finalise his plans to run in the next few days and make it public when the official election date is set this weekend during the General Assembly.

The same can't be said about Real Madrid though, who released their financial expectations for the 2008-09 season to reveal some shocking revelations.

According to a report released by Agence France-Presse, Real Madrid have announced that they are expecting a record €407 million in revenue by June, up from €366 million during the same time last year.

Even more impressive, pre-tax profits are expected to rise to a whopping €58 million. This would see Real Madrid emerge as the world's highest earner in terms of both revenue and profit.

As for the club debts, which have been a controversial issue ever since the infamous 'Galatico' Era, they are expected to drop to €125 million, a world-record 37.5 per cent decrease in total.

Meanwhile, los Blancos' arch-rivals Barcelona are still behind in terms of finances, expecting a 'meagre' €308 million in revenue, €100 million less than Real Madrid. Barca's debts are still at €180 million, and are not expected to decrease severely by the time the financial year ends this June.

The sharp jump in earnings for both teams are largely down to their luxury television contracts, their main source of income, along with merchandising, sponsorship deals, and ticket sales.
