guardoila was quite overwhelmed by his improbable achievements in one season. the sight of him crying showed how humble he was.
good for him.
-------------------
been watching barca for many years now. and I think one of the key points in their success this past season is:
1- Pique.
he is tough and tall and I believe his stint in england made him a formidable defender who can deal with aerial attacks comfortably. something that the team was quite vulnerable in recent past
2- I'd also like to add the inclusion of Keita and Toure who help the middle of the pitch battles with their toughness and height. for years barca suffered from having short mids who despite their skills, came up second best against physical opponents (mainly the english teams). and I think toure and keita have taken care of this.
but I also have a complaint. barca's style is well known. fine with that. but they need to increase their "direct game" tactics a bit more to make them a perfect team.

I think you misunderstood.
if you had watched barca's games against the english teams in champs league before 2008, like those agaist chelsea, man-u, liverpool, ... you'd see how vulnerable they were to the english style of aerial, direct plays. and how their defense was exposed time and again by this physical method of attack.
now, Puyol is not left alone to cover for 2 spots and pique has filled what was missing

im not saying pique was not important... i am just saying the only reason barca won anything was due to messi. sure they are a good team without him but how many times did he save their asses on a late individual goal? without him they would not have won MANY games. i doubt they would have won a single trophy without him.Originally posted by dvader6 View PostI think you misunderstood.

what messi is doing these days, ronaldinho was doing a few years back. so offensively they havent lost their flair and potency.
only one element has replaced another element. barca never had any problems with its attack. it was its defense that was its achillie's heel
a few years back, despite having as potent an offense, they used to be vulnerable in defense and were eliminated in quarters and semis of champs league ONLY becoz of this.

ronaldinho controlled the offense. now xavi and iniesta do that while messi scores at will to save their ass. but yes, historically barca always need the best player in the world to win. maradona, romario, ronaldo, rivaldo, ronaldinho, messi. remember when ronaldinho started to suck? what happened to barca? LOL! they are a one man team. now, they play good as a team without the worlds best player, but they cant win a lot without that extra magical individual touch of the worlds best player saving their asses.Originally posted by dvader6 View Postwhat messi is doing these days, ronaldinho was doing a few years back. so offensively they havent lost their flair and potency.

its typical milad. his opinions sound childish.Originally posted by IraqiFootball View PostLOL @ "saving their asses"
They're a team! Messi is part of the team! It's his job to attack and create/score goals. You make it sound like Barca is cheating by having him on the pitch lol.
we could say the same about higuain who always scores crucial goals for them and "saves their ass".

GRACIAS PEP
