Taremi cost: 20-30m Euros? (I am only guessing here based on past numbers).
    Weghorst cost a reported 3m

Number of goals in Bundesliga games: 59 in 118 games 0.5 goals/game Not bad at all. Add to that 4 Continentail league goals.
For Taremi, goals in a weaker Portugese league; 45 in 81 games 0.55 goals/game .Taremi has 20 goals in Continetal football

Weghorst has had one bad season in Burnley...a team that got eliminated that year. Put Taremi in Burnely and his goal output would drop as well.

Undoubtably his shared nationality with Ten Hag played into this...but scoring a couple of clutch goals in a crazy game against Argentina, the world champions must add to his value.

Taremi is a better player at the same age...but Taremi is 7-8x the price as well. Weghorst is a cheap steal...at least on paper.

So no, it is not blatent racism. On the face of it maybe a rational decision based on finances and probably tinged with familiarity.
If Taremi was in werghost case with his career and vice versa, I am sure Ten Haag would have offered twice the current Taremi price to buy it from Porto. In the same time, nobody would have looked to Taremi at besiktas.

    For our players :
    - party bazi doesn't work except Bayat. The other high placed iranian (mainly in England) don't do anything
    - agents dirty business doesn't work too. Mogi Bayat could Send lot of players from belgian league to French league. Gholizadeh is set to finish his career at charleroi
    - world class stats and hype (both by portuguese big media and Rio Ferdinand) didn't even lead to any serious rumor for a top transfer.

The only thing that work a little but for us is transferring between clubs of the same league.

Damet garm Rio. probably won’t happen, but great to see some people respect our footballers.

He has a good eye for talent, he noticed Taremi during his CL commentary in the previous season.

He also stands to gain financially as he is Taremi's England agent now so will get a cut if Taremi finds an English team.

First of all, very good and fair points.

You're right about the CL experience - I had thought he only played in Europa League.
However, he has 0 goals in the CL. Taremi is now tried and tested against very tough opponents in the CL.

Regarding World Cup play - it no longer matters (as much) to scouts. In our modern age of football, scouts have so much long term data and performance in various competitions that a few weeks in the World Cup doesn't mean much to them.

Price definitely is a valid point. I agree on that. However this is United. they always spend when it matters, and usually much more than required.

Taremi also lines up better with their style of play. Weghorst is a big target man. He's not that great at playmaking, tight space technical play. Not sure what his running stats are, but I doubt he runs more than Taremi as well.

All in all, I think Taremi is a better player, but odds are/were stacked against him for a transfer to United. Maybe Arsenal?

Lets say Mehdi finds a club in the Premier League that suits him & they are willing to pay his transfer fees plus wages, when would the transfer actually take place? Isn‘t the transfer market closed already for now?

Taremi success opened a lot of doors for other Iranians (Mohebi, Alipour, Moghanloo, Beiro, Niazmand)...unfortunately they have not done anything to keep the door open for others. He is definitely a class above and would be in a bigger league and club in he had jumped to Europe earlier. He tried to jump to Turkey, but fell flat!

Mehrdad Mohammadi was actually great, as was Amir Abedzadeh. I'm actually surprised and also somewhat disappointed Mehrdad didn't get picked up by a bigger club after that first season. He scored like 10 goals or something for the dead last team in the league

He really deserves to play at a higher level, I hope it happens. And on the other side we had lazy players who shit on the good opportunities they got. Karimi couldn’t even give enough of a f*** to learn more than 2 or 3 German words and Azmoun… fadash besham…. chera narafti Liverpool shazde????

Taremi chosen as one of the figures of 2022 in Iran

Sports Writers Association [of Iran] highlights forward's year. Portista is going through the best moment of his career and was included in a list that includes a Paralympic medalist, wrestling, rowing and weightlifting athletes.

The performance presented by Taremi throughout 2022 continues to earn him critical recognition in Portugal, Europe and... Iran. Although the "tweet" repudiating the hanging of two demonstrators deserved more attention, to the point that the press closest to the regime scoured the social networks looking for criticism of the FC Porto striker, the truth is that it also became known that the Association of Iranian Sports Writers, Journalists and Photographers chose him as one of the five figures of the last calendar year.

On the list sent to the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), with the aim of being published in the next edition of that organization's magazine, Mehdi is joined by Hashemiyeh Motaghian, gold medalist at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, held in 2020; Kamran Ghasempour, wrestling athlete; Reza Dehdar, gold medalist at the last edition of the Weightlifting World Championships; and Nazanin Malaei, rowing athlete.

Taremi ended 2022 with 34 goals scored for FC Porto, to which he added five more in the service of Iran, which made him the fourth best scorer of the last calendar year among players playing in Europe.

He is completely underrated and vastly unknown, except die hard football fans and portuguese foootball followers. That's why a transfer to a top team could change it.

Mehdi is starting in the RO16 cup match vs Arouca (same team he scored a hat trick against a few weeks ago).
