Only the first half. We were completely the better team in the first 45 min with better scoring opportunities.

The second half we regressed unfortunately because of either our coach’s incompetence or the Yugoslavian coach making tactical changes, which led to them improving.

And having Nakissa in the goal really hurt us. He setup the wall on that free kick and went and stood right behind it not having a good view of the shot.

What is hilarious is that many years later he publicly defended his action and said he would not have changed a thing if he had a second chance. Really pathetic.

If we had won that game which we could have, we would have advanced from the group stage.

He did a horrible job setting up the wall, and made the situation even worse by his horrible positioning. Even with all that said, if he hadn't jumped to his left for a split second, he still could've made the stop. He did the half jump to his left, thinking the ball was going to curve, which no way it could've since it was pretty shallow.

Well that split jump to the left was a direct result of his bad positioning. Abedzadeh would have saved that shot.

Interesting SS players noting high intensity and level of trainings under Sa pinto. Bodes well for guys like Hardani, Mehdipour, Jalali in lead up to WC.

Also for me it brings up another point. Iranian players are the type that if you as the coach/staff challenge them and give them a lot, they respond in return, raise their level and give more back (At least the ones that are worth anything). This was also the case in CQ time when he was really challenging the guys with the trainings, specific tasks he gave each of them for matches, additional input with the likes of fitness/heart rate monitors that they wore during trainings and games, etc. More input --> more output.

I'm sure to some extent the players (at least some of them) initially were open to Sko's more hands off, "figure it out yourself" approach. But as time gradually passed, with longer camps, as he gave less and less input (no video sessions, no expectations, lax trainings, etc) everything went to shit. The players are not like Real Madrid stars who themselves now exactly how to train, prepare, etc and can excel with hands off coach. They need constant input, motivation, management, etc. Maybe Sko approach would work with some eastern Euro NTs, croatia, etc.

Sepahan players under Morais have noted a similar thing. I expect that SS and Sepahan will fight for the title this year, and in future years Berdyev will build a competitive team with tractor. Players in these teams will be constantly pushed to raise their level and more and more will be demanded of them. The opposite is happening in what should be the pinnacle of our football pyramid.

^ No heartrate monitors, GPS bibs is a telltale sign that something is wrong. Highly professional teams use these to their advantage, especially in 2022. Even college and high school teams in the US are, and for some reason we don't under Sko?

Great point of view, much better than the view from the locker room in 2005

funny thing is that saudi wanted to sack their coach but they decided to keep him for WC because it was TOO NEAR wc games. And they looked at other teams that failed when they did this.

I guess some people will never learn. We should've been only concentrated on preps than creating stupid campaigns to sack our coach. IDIOTS!

The difference maybe that Saudis can support a coach they are not 100% happy with by spending money for camps and friendlies, Iran doesnt do this, we need a coach who can do magic without money, and we dont ask for any new coach, we say only option is CQ who knows Iran better than anyone and is a respected person.

Skocic who after all the fails still says he is happy that Iran didnt go to Uruguay for a friendly cant be taken serious, yes i know flying 2 days for 1 friendly is very hard, but you can stay some more days and relax, also you are not in a hurry or days before the World Cup

Just saw a Video of Skocic beeing asked on Iranian TV about the breakfast thing, if players could decide if they come for breakfast or not.

He was like WTF we went to WC in this hard situation and now people look for problems and make a drama of a breakfast !?

You can watch it on Artin Zohrabi's Instagram, he is a reporter i think.

Skocic spoke with the "Varzeshghah" TV program and responded to their many inquiries.

In order to observe some of the TM players in training and speak with their coach, he said he would travel to Turkey.
