Unfortunate what happened to these families, but I dont see how denying the soccer team to play a game is related to that situation. The Canadian Prime Minister's response was also poor; just shoveling it on to be someone else's problem. What a politician.

I hope the match goes on and we all get to enjoy a great friendly for TM. Everyone seems to agree that TM is a symbol of unity for all Iranians around the world and politics and sports should not be mixed. Unfortunately many people tend to not walk the talk and are trying to use this to score political points.

Government of Canada is not exactly a U.S. puppet but it is not far from it either. Long gone the days of Trudeau senior who allowed close to 20,000 young Americans in who did not want to fight in an unjust and inhumane war in Vietnam. I was naive in the past to believe that Canadians could somehow take an independent position on Iran regardless of what U.S. government wants. Trudeau junior is an opportunist and more of a show than go when it comes to being progressive. What happened with the Ukrainian flight and recently in Mashhad were terrible events (of different magnitudes of course) yet why our TM should pay for a repressive and incompetent government's actions?

There are so many unknown regarding TM schedule for next 30 days.
Today Sko will meet with Estili and IFF offials to sort out few undecided issues.
As for now TM will go to Turkey for biometric screening and1-2 training session before fly to Canada. No news regarding 2nd match yet.
Canada has only accepted expanse of 55 convoy members, if more IFF has to cover the cost.

Either it's canceled against New Zealand supposedly due to logistics, canceled because Albania wants money, advertising issue with El Salvador, or some other random never before heard of KOS-E-SHER. All that, in addition to praying to Emam Ali that this Canada friendly does not get canceled because people can't take their anger out on the correct opposition.

For once he get a useful preparation match vs a strong opponent, and after decades in a location accessible to a large portion of the diaspora population. Not only is the match useful for us and will be a cash flux to our broke fededation, but it is very useful and profitable for the opponent, and forces our federation to adopt professional and responsible modes of communication/planning.

Tehran Times - Former Iran national football team striker Edmond Bezik believes that the current situation of the Iranian football federation suggests that nobody should expect significant success from the national team in the 2022 World Cup.

Iran are in Group B of the World Cup with England and the U.S. , which kicks off Nov. 21 in Qatar. But while Iran's rivals and other Asian representatives such as Japan and South Korea have established their preparation program with high-profile warm-ups, Iran just have confirmed one friendly match against Canada for the next month in Vancouver.

“Every coach has his own philosophy about team preparation. The ideas of Dragan Skocic should definitely be respected,” said Bezik in his interview with Tehran Times.

“However, the question is: with the current situation of the Iranian Football Federation, can the plans of the head coach of the national team be implemented? Most teams have already arranged matches, and we will have to find the strong opponents to prepare our team,” added the head coach of Persepolis' U23 team.

The interim president of the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI), Mirshad Majedi, has said they will announce the friendlies until the details are finalized.

“The Iranian football community hopes for a greater urgency when the soccer federation meets to choose a new president in the upcoming months,” he added.

Bezik sees a big challenge ahead of the national team: “The current condition of Iran national team is like a club that does not have a general manager. Can we expect accurate planning and implementation of programs in such a team?”

"The big problem of the FFIRI is that there is no proper budget to set up appropriate fixtures in the build-up to the World Cup. Also, this federation has no ability to communicate with the top football federations.

“Iran have been drawn into a difficult group. We should not expect much from our national team because we have tough matches ahead of us and the conditions for preparing the team are not good,” Bezik concluded.
