which ones? There was the snapshot i guess he should have put on target and even that was from random deflection in the box. They gave little to work with in terms of clear cut opportunities. Bakker whiffing on the easy cut back was definition of most of the service he got.

Overall solid game. nobody could question his running or effort/fitness today. Unfortunately leverkusen just lack that guile to break down well drilled defenses.

How many times did they get frimpong the isolations he wanted out wide and the guy dribbled out of play or lost the ball? Same for diaby...These guys had system built for them and still didn't produce jack shit when it mattered

Frimpong and Diaby made the BL attack predictable. Roma's defense knew exactly what they were going to do and shut them down every time in the final 3rd. Left alone on an island by himself, against a stingy defense like Roma, SA wasn't set up to succeed with this system.

Ref also did a horrendous job managing this game. Was far too quick on blowing the whistle. 8 minutes honestly was too little, I wish the World Cup true effective added time policy was at play here where games like this would get 15 minutes ET.

DId better in the second half. Definitely moved around more and gave more defensively.
Also got fucked over for a penalty.


None of his chances were "sitters", but he had some opportunities to score, but failed to do so. More so than any other player in his team.

I really dont think what people are saying about his fitness is so drastic. He just put in almost back to back 90s in a row in quick succession. Today he was regularly making 30 meter sprints back to force turnovers. He was not outmuscled by the gardan koloft roma backline and held his own perfectly well. His link up play was good.

I really do not see situation that he needs to leave leverkusen necessarily. This was a critical game with season on the line, xabi preferred him to a rested hlozek. He had a solid showing given lack of service. Next season will be battle/rotation between him and schick at #9, hlozek I think will move to a wider role especially with diaby leaving.

They have much bigger concerns in their team than the 9s, namely trying to get them service. Grimaldo is a big upgrade to bakker, xhaka will help their midfield and overall flow. Hopefully they can get more TEAM players for the frimpong/diaby roles and then maybe they can go a step further. These 2 play football the opposite of how it was meant to be played...they look for "iso" plays almost like its basketball. Never really seen anything like it, where a team basically pauses all other aspects of their game to get 2 average, albeit speedy, players in 1v1 situations and then they just fail to do anything from the 1v1.

It is the manner in how you do it. You can defend like lions and end up getting the result but tonight there was play acting, cheap tactics and no attacking play from a team with quality in those areas.
Yes Leverkusen didn’t play great.

His team mates were definitely looking for him today but he didn’t have any clear cut chances he should have put away. Just one or two half chances….I do agree with the ppl who say a sharper azmoun would have finished that volley though, that is for sure. He used to score way harder goals than that for zenit every week.

I think it’s a good sign that he played back to back 90 min games more or less. Esp in bayer’s most important game of the season.
