I saw on IG that after the game Sardar embraced a Mainz assistant coach, Babak Kayhanfar. Had no idea we had an Iranian assistant on Mainz.

"This is a totalitarian system whose presence people feel in their blood and in their flesh on a daily basis. And it’s one that does not grant freedoms of any kind, or accommodate people’s demands in any way. What is increasingly clear is that there is clear demand for change in the regime. What the people want is regime change, and no return to the past. There is a very real possibility of regime change." - Nasrin Sotoudeh

In other words: first series of injuries, then this transfer. Really no wonder why he didnt start these last months!

                Fav highlights from the interview:

                - Him talking about his responsibility of giving back to sports and that he is delighted to support women in sports.
                - Him talking about the need of investing in youth and the importance of wanting whats good for iranians.

I love flipping through pages in these threads and reading the bipolar comments by “fans” of Iranian football. “He thux!” “He’s the neckth-T Ibrahimovic!” It’s delightful.

Happy he didn't join Marseille. This team and city can change a sheep into a wild wolf.

I am a huge Hashemian fan, but I can argue that Sardar is better. Hashemian had 2 really good season with Bochum, but that's about it.

If your argument is you will be happy with Sardar having a couple of Hashemian like seasons in the Bundesliga, I will agree with you. But as a player, I think Sardar is better. For majority of footballer, its about fit. You really have to be cognizant of which team and system you go into.

My point, not argument, is that the fans set him up to be criticized like this by having very big expectations for him. This isn’t meant to be critical, but he was in Russian league in mid-20s and Iranian fans were calling him world class or one of the top strikers in Europe. That’s just unrealistic. I don’t think Hash is a better player but first we should compare to Iranian players’ accomplishments and then get to comparing with the world’s best. A few years ago with like 30-something TM goals, some folks were sure he’s gonna beat Daei’s record. Expectations of top 5 striker in Europe, 100 int’l goals… these aren’t small things. Most players will come up short.
