That's not a given at all. Japan as the 3rd seed could still easily make it through the playoff and then subsequent home and away against middle america team (Costa Rica or so for example).
I also rather have Japan qualify because they are the only reliable team out of asia to make it out of the group and improve asian standing. Saudi Arabia usually gets destroyed badly against any semi-decent team and SK and Australia are hit and miss. Iran usually delivers acceptable/solid results but has never made it out of the group stage.
I for one usually do root for SK and Japan during the world cup.
