Clearly not a genetic issue, as Saman is "fully" Iranian. But I do think growing up in Europe allows him to avoid what you're talking about (it's more cultural for Iranians to be self-defeating and under-confident). The same was true with Ashkan. He went toe-to-toe with Argentina and almost scored a header lob over the goalie. They have a knack for remaining cool and collected under the worse conditions.

It really hurts thinking about Saman‘s carrier. From being praised by Arsene Wenger, playing outstanding for Östersunds to playing for a dead beat French team and now being a sub for a mid–table championship team.

God this guy had so much talent, what the actual f*** happens to him?
