Ehhhmm it kinda does. Since its not YOUR tax dollars that are paying his salary.
I mean dude seriously its not rocket science loool
Either way the most important thing is the majority of the public as well as the players are behind him. End of discussion really.

I definitely agree that CQ would have done wonders with the 98' and 06' squads, I'm not sure that there is anyone who does. I also agree that we dont have a clear cut nekounam, mahdavikia, or daie on our hands at the moment....but, what I will say is we MAY possibly have them in Azmoun, JB, and Ezzi. Time will tell if they can be compared or do better than those legends but for now they are on the right track as teens or 21 year olds.Originally posted by ramingeles2000 View PostThanks for the thoughtful write up, aziz. To answer your first question, I think that he stayed for the same 2 reasons 99% of human beings stay at a job: because he receives a very competitive salary and because he feels appreciated. Imagine, every single country he visited with TM, waves of Iranians begged him to stay and supported him and gave him credit. Compare this to his prior experience in Portugal, where the Portuguese press lambasted him for not using Cristiano properly, or with his time at Man U, where, because Alex Ferguson refused to talk to the press, it was CQ's job to address the vicious British press every day and answer their absurd, insulting questions each and every day. In Man U CQ was always at odds with Roy Keane because CQ had so much power in coaching the team, and this created a stressful atmosphere too. Now, all the players obey him without question.
Simply put, the Iran job provides a coach like CQ with something he's never had before: an obedient set of players who respect him, and a fan base that adores him. Of course, he believes we have the potential to make the WC but we've always had that potential, regardless of what players are at his disposal.
I agree that our young players have a lot of potential. And I hope more than anything that Jahanbakhsh has the type of impact that Mahdavikia did. But so far, he hasn't matched what a young 20-22 year old Mahdavikia had achieved in the Bundesliga, and his role for team melli has yet to crystallize.
I think we both agree: there is a lot of potential, but the point is that potential doesn't equate to current abilities and my only point is that if CQ had talent like we'd had in prior generations, his results would be much better. I'm not saying our players aren't good, I'm saying that for iranian standards, we've had much much better so it's not fair to judge CQ without taking this fact into consideration.
CQ can drill the players, prepare them, ask for friendlies, etc, but at the end of the day, it takes that 1-2 seconds of quick thinking and reactions that GREAT players undergoing rigorous daily English/Italian/Spanish/German practices have (kia, hashemian, karimi, teymourian in his prime, nekounam) that makes the difference in international football.
If you look at past TMs, it was always moments of individual brilliance that won our greatest games, NOT being well-coached or organized defensively. Think about Daei's incredible through-ball to Azizi, Mahdavikia's incredible 1-on-1 run in WC98, Karimi's hat trick against SK, karimi's perfect cross to hashemian against Japan in 2005, nekounam's free kick against SK in WCQ2010 and all the goals we've scored off of set pieces (including Iran vs Mexico, Nekounam's goal against Saudi Arabia in WCQ2010, etc).
We had the players, but lacked the coaches. imagine if CQ had players like azizi, bagheri, daei, karimi etc in their prime!
I will finish off the back and forth now by saying I believe you're opinion of talent and proving ones self is just simply unrealistic. It seems to me that you're definition of talent is going to europe and performing at similar levels of mahdavikia and hashemian did. That my friend takes a lot of time.....so like I just said, time will tell if we have any stars on our hands or not. The signs look good to me and most other TM fans.

OK, fine....... Let's fire his ass all the way back to Portugal .....Originally posted by Doctor DOOM View PostHmmm... lets see.
Daei - vatani - one loss to ksa, a top Asian team ( not exactly Lebanon, right?), .... fired.
GN - vatani - a draw against asia's top 3 team (Iraq nowhere near that), ..... fired
CQ - loss to Lebanon ..... mehhhhh . Bow, bow
draw against Iraq (not exactly Asian top 5 team) ..... mehhhhh. Lets prostate in front of him.
The difference? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Or is it a certain ''complex'' usually associated with the .. supposed ''blue eyed'' people'?
Please let us know who should replace him ???? Just throw some names out there .... We all would love to have some high profile coach, not in their late 90's, willing to forgo salaries for months, deal with the IFF incompetency and deal with a bunch of rat faced hezbollahis on a daily basis ...they don't have to have blue eyes either..... just give us ONE name ..... ANY name.
and please don't tell us Mayeli Kohan is your choice. We all remember your 2 page essay you wrote a few years ago saying, "Desperate times requires desperate measures .... and MK is the answer to our problems" ......
yes, desperate times calls for desperate measure, but desperate times does not call for suicidal measures.

well, qualifications for worldcup do not happen every year so you will have to do with the results of 2 years ago.Originally posted by ali alipour View PostQualification to the World Cup happened over 2 years ago. That shouldn't be the base of judgement on cq otherwise it would be logical to say shojaei should be starting because he was playing well in la liga 3-4 years ago.
You made a sarcastic comment about us not beating Oman and Turkmenistan, and I just pointed to you that those 2 countries have NEVER qualified for the WC.

Sure, and where did we get by firing them? Firing them was the wrong decision (mostly Daei, GN blew it against a South Korea B team basically). Maybe we learned from our terrible mistake of firing a coach with a few games left in the last round of qualifying?
Either Ghotbi should have been hired from the beginning, or Daei should have been fired before the final round. Once he started the the final round, the best decision was to keep him (or any coach).
Anyway, that's a discussion for another day.
People take it hard when CQ comes and states the TRUTH about our football.
What has he ever said about the state of our football that was wrong? If anyone can give me one legitimate answer, I would be surprised..
Is he wrong about our pitches? Is he wrong about our clubs? Is he wrong about facilities? Is he wrong about infrastructure? Planning? Youth Development? Fitness? Mentality? Our officials' short sightedness? Selfishness? What is he wrong about?
People in these forums are very much like the Iranians in Iran. You can listen to them pick their country apart with everything that's wrong with it, but as soon as someone else says something negative, they get upset.
CQ isn't saying these things to have a laugh. He wants to make people aware of the shocking reality that is our football, which for some reason bothers everyone. If you want to pull the covers over your eyes and ignore what is going on around you, that is your option. However, don't try to fool anyone else that everything is great (or even average) in our football.
As for talent, I can only say one thing. People need to learn the difference between talent and potential.
Our players are brimming with potential. However talent is a different story, which involve maaaaaaaany different variables. And that talent will never be FULLY untapped until we solve our football's problems. The one that CQ mentions all the time and people mistake for "negativity".

I am still laughing at the original post saying KING CARLOS! I had to look away from my computer screen and just start laughing for a couple minutes.
Now for my take on Carlos himself, I feel like he has been Jekyll and Hyde when it has come to his performance. Overall, he has been more good than bad, but lets not praise the man for saving our country's football or something. I like what one of the previous people said that we have the talent, but we aren't nurturing them well. I believe the overall depth of talent is one of the best its ever been, but we need the talent to grow by sending these talents to Europe rather than staying or playing in Qatar/China. The Iran league is just too unorganized for any talents to truly grow which scares me for the futures of Taremi, Sharifi, Karimi, Nariman Jahan, Beirovand, Kaveh Rezaei, ETC. The earlier the move onto Europe, the better for their development. I believe Ezza, JB, Azmoun will be starters for the next 7-10 years if their current development continues. However, I won't shoulder the blame on CQ for this matter. The system in Iran is just messed up and it has alot to do with politics. Now lets not bring 2006 team in this convo because I believe this talent pool has more potential than 2006 but not the star power that 2006 had with Karimi, Hashemian, Mahdvkia, Daei, Neko.
I like how we are starting to invest and build better facilities for the league.. This will won't immediately fix the issue but its a start.

This line of reasoning isn't helpful. We should not take the rare example to prove a point. We should take the more common examples.
In other words, in your opinion youth systems usually DONT produce future senior nat'l teams or DO they? What does logic say?
Imo,, logic says youth system DOES produce senior teams. I'm not saying they all progress into senior team. But many do, therefore it is logical to invest in them.

We don't lack talent. We lack the proper way to NURTURE our talent.

Then, when I give facts on topics to try and support my reasoning for supporting CQ, everyone bitches and whines "stop trying to prove me wrong!!! Stahp eet!"
Then the same dickheads come in here and try to prove someone else's opinion wrong. Reasonable minds can and will disagree about CQ. You people are so blind to your own hypocrisy on mostly every subject.
This is what this thread has turned into.

CQ is a decent coach. I wish he would move some players around and bench some people. We all are on here because we are TM fans, and hope they make it to WC 2018. I just hope that happens and maybe, maybe somehow we add another win to our WC history.
Edit: Before grammar police attacks me, I know it is supposed to be "You're", I just found the gif online. Don't deport me back to Iran.

I think that some of our fans would be losing their minds if they were supporting any other Asian NT outside the top 4
