Are we "cursed", or is it .... ???

I see a lot of "We are cursed", "they're against us" .... which make no sense whatsoever.
I also see realistic views pointing to our own failings & missteps that the ppl who run the football keep ignoring year after year. Which means we keep making the same mistakes, same failings, same shortcomings come up again and again.

We are NOT cursed more than any other team.
WE did/do it to ourselves. And yes, it's political. Bcoz WE (country of Iran, including the regime) bring politics into everything. Living under this regime that turns the most mundane issues into political points or an opportunity to push their depraved outlook.
Lets see what this “curse” is and who “cursed” us.

1. Who deliberately weakened the team by excluding some effective players like Azmoun, Sayadmanesh, …?
2. Who raised the average age of the team to 32?
3. Who is responsible for Iran being treated like a pariah? Where we couldn’t get a single half-decent team to play us in test games? When every other nation could.
4. Who is responsible for canceling of tours, camps, travel plans, …? When it never happened to any other nation.
5. Who is responsible for the US adopting such stringent restrictions on visa, camps, game-day, … ? why didn’t they do this to the of the 47 teams?
6. Whose fault is it that we couldn’t beat the WEAKEST team in the group and perhaps one of the weakest teams in the entire WC?
7. Whose fault was it that we didn’t convert an easy penalty? A weak slow shot, close to the keeper.

At the same time I do detect some peculiar things happen that may feed those who want to bring supernatural into things.

1. 3 goal post/bar hits
2. Two VAR calls of your arse 3 inches off and your toe by 2 inches
3. Even the corner flag (Austria game) didn’t want us to advance as it kept the ball in.
4. While on the last matchday we had 96% chance of going through, that 4% won!

Blame whoever and whatever you want. But you cant ignore all the fault of our own. I may feel bad for the country of Iran for not registering a WC advance record. But I also am happy the regime will not get another opportunity to turn this into “a win for Islamic regime, Islam, axis of resistance (Mehvar-e moghavemat), ,, or whatever garbage sh*t they always do). Don’t like to face this fact? Sue me.

The team also have a lot to be blamed for. They could have placed their own people & nation above else. The players had NO PLACE amongst the people of Iran. Even when the ppl put aside their grievances aside and cheered their goal, the players still didn’t connect wt the ppl, nor even tried (How many of players appeared in regime orchestrated street circus, proudly expressed their love for regime & Rahbar, wanted to dedicate any success to their leader, … ).

Nothing captures the concept of KARMA than Shoja scoring a goal, acting like an idiot, getting his goal ruled offside, becoming a meme internationally ... when he has been one of the most vocal supporters of the regime wt all his rants.
THAT is Karma.

Worst was when they said “those are all INTERNAL issues and no need to talk about them”, referring to slaughter of more than 40,000 innocent Iranians. The more they distanced themselves from the population, the more likely the jubilation in their failure.

Appreciate the sentiment but the situation in Iran is so bad that people turn to short kicks to ease the pain ie) Drugs or football (maybe religion for some folk)

Their "resistance" will forget about this in a week meanwhile Iranians have had the worst year in many years.

We are cooked as a nation. I think its more and more clear. A slow crawl to death.

I think its pretty miserable that we want to deprive Iranians in Iran of any happiness however short lived under the regime they have to suffer under.

Even that Shoja Khalilzadeh will be upset for a month and go back to sootis in Persepolis. He'll be there in the Asian cup.

We'll be back in four years time talking about the same things, the same badbakhti, some shades worse. All of us with what hair we have left just a little grayer

I dont agree with any of the hopelessness and lack of faith in your post, as logical as you may have intended it to be.
In fact I see a very bright future (not very far, imo) for Iran and Iranians

We failed partly because...

1. OLDEST STARTING 11 IN WC HISTORY...and we are not talking about Messi/Ronaldo types.

2. Exclusion of some best talent including Azmoun and some very exciting young players.

3. A desire to have excuses for failure rather than bypassing and circumventing problems. (Eg. Jetlag... should have gone to Mexico a few days earlier!!!).


Cursed/Bad luck/Doomed/Discriminated/Victimized/Conspiracy. These are all words every Iranian should erase from their vocabulary because they are a plague of our culture.

I do have one nerdy rebuttal to your entire post: You can't calculate the last day chances using simple math only, that's not how that works. The entire time I kept hearing numbers like 92% or 96%, I knew it was actually much lower than that and close to 20-25% because none of those figures were taking the motivation factor, and each team's approach towards their last game into account.

I do have one nerdy rebuttal to your entire post: You can't calculate the last day chances using simple math only, that's not how that works. The entire time I kept hearing numbers like 92% or 96%, I knew it was actually much lower than that and close to 20-25% because none of those figures were taking the motivation factor, and each team's approach towards their last game into account.

I agree.
I'm just using numbers others have used. Merely saying Iran had high chances (certainly much more than 25%).
I assume those numbers are based on team rankings and whatnot.

TM has never been more unpopular than it is now. Majority of people in Iran don’t care about football, when they are struggling everyday. Just go look at IG and all the videos from inside Iran making fun of TM. Or go look at the posts of the people who lost family at the hands of IRGC. Look at Meysam Poorfalaki’s, Kian Poorfalaki’s dad, post making fun of Ramin Rezayian.
