A tie against Egypt will place Iran in 3rd place of the Group G with 3 points and 0 GD. At the moment there are at least 2 to 3, third place finishers in other groups that will end up with 4 points, meaning there will be a maximum of 5 places for teams with 3 points. Now becuase Iran is the only team with 3 draws and 0 GD, chances will be higher for Iran to go through to next round, as other 3 point teams have loses with negative GD. The opponents for third place finishers in Round of 32 are determined in accordance with a complex FIFA formula which includes 495 possibilities for such assignment. For Group G however there are fewer permutations which limits it to either the 2nd of Group B (Canada, Bosnia, Swiss, Qatar) or 1st of Group I, (France, Senegal, Norway, Iraq). At this point it will likely be either Canada/Swiss from Group B or France from Group I.

Maybe easier to just get eliminated!! :-)
by the time Iran plays on Friday, 8 of the groups will be decided. They will know what they have to work with. The advantage of playing later in the tournament is this.

I think we must play for the win. Sitting back for a tie doesn't even guarantee qualification. We need to attack, but not throw bodies forward to the point where we are so vulnerable. Egypt will also probably sit back more since they are basically guaranteed to advance and just need a point to top the group.

We must learn the lesson from the USA game in 2022 and ATTACK. If we sit back and play lethargic, we open ourselves to a draw or a loss. A draw is not a guarantee to make it because we haven't scored many goals, and a loss means we are done.

It's not just Iran that has had to fly back and forth. The worst case has been Bosnia, they have flown way longer distances than Iran

True, Iran actually have one of the shortest flights i believe. The issue for them is the fact they cant stay in the US and have to leave straight after the game..

I agree with him 100%. This Egypt team is just as strong, if not stronger than Belgium. We'll lose for sure if we play an open game.

If we play defensively like vs Belgium, we stand a much better chance at a draw (likely enough to progress) or a narrow 1-0 / 2-1 victory.

Iran playing an open game=disastrous defence = a sure loss and go home.

if the goal is just a tie. Yes, but if the goal is to move to the 2nd round, then no, because 3 points is not enough.

I'd rather see a midblock with some possession. Mid block won't give salah too much space and keeping possession will take him outa the game.

We don't have speed to score on counters from a low block anyway

I dont ever remember Iran playing theyr best game at the world cup when its the 3rd match, by this time the stamina is gone and fatigue has set in and also we dont even have a proper starting 11 our bench is non existant, we lose this game like the bosnia match in 2014

                            3-1 or 2-1

^ I hope you come back here afterwards when they go home and keep your faith in a team that has disappointed its people long before the games even started.
