An imperious performance from our team. To get a point from Belgium and a clean sheet is very impressive given the circumstances our players are currently in. I was very worried about our team and defence going into the game and thought that we would concede left, right and centre. We could have even won if the offside was a bit kinder to us. So props to Team Melli and even to Ghalenoi (for the most part).

Beiranvand - 10/10 - Flawless. Made 0 mistakes. He placed confidence in the goalposts and we would've lost bad if it wasn't for him. Special shoutout for the amazing one arm save he made to keep us in. Deserved MoM.

Hardani - 3.5/10 - I wasn't impressed with Hardani's performance. It was obvious the level of the game was too much for him. Struggled heavily on the right and needed Rezaiean for help. No disrespect to him and tbf I would've started him for this game too but he was out of his depth.

Kanani - 8/10 - Kept Lukaku quiet. Was brilliant with defensive work and gave the back line confidence. Happy with his performance.

Shoja - 7/10 - surprised. He was awful for New Zealand but he seemed to have made it up this match. Made some critical tackles and was largely without mistake. Good performance.

Nemati - 3/10 - Horrible. This guy is not PGL quality let alone Team Melli. Made a lot of mistakes and was awful on the ball. Only decent contribution was stealing a corner from us.

Hajsafi - 7/10 - Good. Did surprising very well against Belgium. He was calm and played with experience. excellent with the set piece.

Ezzatolahi - 7/10 - Really good performance. Stepped up to the game. Was crucial for us in the middle. Very happy with him. He is so key to us. when you take him out you can see the midfield and the middle crumbles.

Ghoddos - 8.5/10 - His defensive work was fantastic. He was clearing the balls where others were hesitating. He was everywhere and kept his position strong. Again, like Saeid, the moment you take him off, you can see the quality of our team dropping significantly. Critical player.

Mohebbi - 4/10 - this isn't a criticism on him. We were not attacking at all.

Rezaeian 7/10 - very pleased with him. His set piece delivery was on point and was one of the few players looking forward.

Taremi - 8/10 - Great game from Taremi. very difficult given the defensive format but he did well to imprint his contribution to the game. very unlucky with the offside goa. Fantastic to get the red card (not the first time). arguably could have scored again but Courtious did amazing to save his shot.

Subs

Torabi - 7/10 - good sub to bring him in for Mohebbi. Torabi was actually having a really good game. Made a difference attacking wise.

Hosseinzadeh - 3/10 - saw nothing from him but I kind of blame it with Ghaleneoi and the lack of midfield.

Jahanbaksh - 6/10 - Agreed with bringing him in. had a good chance. tried to influence the game but his experience was helpful for the defensive to offsenive transition.

Moghanlou - 2/10 - invisible. he was fantastic against NZ but today was no where to be seen but again I blame that on Ghalenoi and the weird tactics.

Ghalenoi - 5/10 - good defensive tactics. Poor offsensive tactics. Bizan ziresh doesnt work. no creativity going forward. struggled to keep the ball. our ball retention was awful. Some good subs but awful formation. Could've gone with the win and I believe he was doing that with the subs he brought on but the subs didn't perform. Overall, correct decision to get a point but awful offensive tactics.


NB: I appreciate that I haven't / don't post much. This forum was one of my favourite places on the internet and it's sad to see external factors taking away the World Cup experience. This forum was crazy with tons of energy when the World Cup was on in the past and so I hope we can get it to that place again where we all unite together for the success of Team Melli and Iranian football. Football brings the world together and we need that right now more than ever for our country.

I think he went for the win there bringing on a winger for Ezzatolahi. But it didn’t work and the midfield was wide open the last 10 mins once Ezzatolahi came off

Wouldn’t it be better if Egypt wins? Then they would basically be through to the next round even as one of the best third-placed teams. It would also mean there’s more at stake in the final round between Belgium and New Zealand. And we would be facing a team that has already qualified.

I think these days teams also try their best to win the group so they can face an easier opponent in the next round. So Egypt may not take it easy even if they have already qualified.
