US with unlimited resources, preparation and a whole nation as well as FIFA behind them got a heavy 4–1 defeat.
In contrast Iran team was heavily oppressed in this tournament yet they drew the same team. We had a goal called Offside by a tiny margin and we even had a chance to defeat Belgium when they went one man down.
I am not a fan of GN far from it in fact. But we have to admit we were great against Belgium and with better circumstances we could have won.
Hopefully soon when we are free from IR and IRGC I predict our football is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

This wasn't the same Belgium team with a man down in their 2nd game of the tourney, and also group stage games and elimination games are not the same. Iran would not be able to replicate that result against them in an elimination game (aside from the fact that a tie is impossible in elimination games!). Switzerland would've defeated Iran with ease too. Their best chance for advancing to Rd. of 16 was finishing 2nd and playing Australia.Originally posted by Damavand View PostUS with unlimited resources, preparation and a whole nation as well as FIFA behind them got a heavy 4–1 defeat.

I agree tho we had a chance to beat them in that game with a man down, but we cowered.

Other FIFA controversies for the records:
FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Association Football) has faced numerous controversies across its history, spanning tournament-fixing, massive institutional corruption, and on-field disputes. The most significant controversies include:
2015 FIFA Corruption Scandal:
The U.S. Department of Justice unsealed a sweeping racketeering and bribery indictment. It resulted in the arrest of several top executives and the resignation of long-time President Sepp Blatter.
Qatar 2022 World Cup Bidding:
The selection of Qatar was heavily scrutinized over allegations of bribery to FIFA executive committee members. The tournament also sparked major controversies regarding human rights violations, migrant worker deaths, and last-minute crackdowns on anti-discrimination rainbow armbands.
Disgrace of Gijon (1982):
A group-stage match between West Germany and Austria where both teams intentionally stopped trying after a 1-0 German lead, ensuring both advanced and eliminated Algeria. This led to a rule change requiring final group matches to be played simultaneously.
Hand of God (1986):
Diego Maradona’s notorious quarterfinal goal against England, which he scored using his fist. The referee missed the handball, which allowed the goal to stand.
Luis Suarez Bites (2014):
Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez bit Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during a group stage match. Suarez was banned from all football activities for four months.
Battle of Santiago (1962):
One of the most violent matches in World Cup history between Chile and Italy, featuring fighting, spitting, and police intervention to separate players.
On-Field Disasters:
Historical blown referee calls have defined tournaments, such as the 1966 "phantom goal" in the final, the 2002 South Korea vs. Italy refereeing scandals, and Thierry Henry's unpenalized handball in 2009 that qualified France over Ireland.__________________________________________________ ________________________________________

First round matches are always like that. Im sure you remember Saudi beating Argentina and what happened later in the tournament. Belgium's engine is just starting up. It wasn't because Iran was good but that Belgium was not ready yet.Originally posted by Damavand View PostUS with unlimited resources, preparation and a whole nation as well as FIFA behind them got a heavy 4–1 defeat.

If you noticed Belgium did not start Lukaku in this game while they did against us. The fact is Belgium was much fiery against us since they had not won their first game against Egypt.Originally posted by FeLFeL View Post

If we had gone through as a third place team I fancied our chances against Switzerland. If Qatar can manage to draw them there was no reason for us not to win, especially since with every game we were getting better and better. If we had a normal government with a normal federation we could have gone far in this tournament.

I fully agree there. We've always underachieved under this regime. Not only in Football.Originally posted by Damavand View Post

The Lukaku thing is cause the Belgian coach made adjustments as needed for each game. He also didn't start Doku and De Bruyne vs USA. I think he's a very a good coach, possibly coach of the tourney so far. He saved them from getting eliminated by Senegal. Doesn't hesitate to bench his stars, Portugal's coach Martinez should've been taking notes instead of playing Ronaldo 90 mins vs Spain in Rd. 16 at 41 years old!
