Of the 8 quarterfinalists, 6 have performed according to their Fifa June 11 rankings....
Argentina (1), Spain(2), France.(3) England (4) Morocco (6) and Belgium (8).

Brazil and Germany underperformed.
Portugal and Netherlands performed according to rank losing to a team with the higher rank.

Two teams, Norway (31) and Swiss (19) over performed...taking out Brazil and Colombia.

If all goes according to the rankings, Spain, France, England and Argentina would reach the semis. Hopefully there will be a lot of surprises but it looks like Fifa rankings have not been too bad!

Of course, those of you who endorse a Fifa conspiracy have not been surprised!

^ I think the US had a relatively easy path. Facing Paraguay, Bosnia, Turkey, none of which are worldclass. The weaknesses became clear once they faced their first tough opponent.

Under normal conditions, I don't think the US would have lost 4-1 playing on their own turf. I think the negativity around the red card controversy had a huge impact on the team. It also energized the Belgium team. That end-of-the game dance, mocking Trump tells us that this was a big issue with them in the locker room

Argentina have struggled too much with weaker teams like cape Verde and Egypt. They are really creaking. I don't know if they'll escape England, Morocco or even Swiss. They have the goods but not clicking yet.

the point is, FIFA is not stupid. They created an easy path for the US team trying to get them at least into the semi-finals. Turkey, Paraguay, Austalia and Bosnia were all crap and their rankings are proof. he moment they faced a team with higher rankings, they panicked. You could tell they were scared. The Redcard controvery did not help either
