There are number of ways Iran can advance,

1. both Egypt and Belgium withdraw from the tournament due to suspicion of Ebola virus in their camp

3. if Iran team packs their bags and go home in advance of end of the group stage

For nearly 50 years, I've been following this team. And every 4 years, it is the same disappointment. Now that we're in a state where most of us want to punish this team for political and theological ideologies, I bet this is the year that they will finally advance out of the group stage. The year that most of us DON"T want them to, will be the year that they actually will.
And I'll state again that these guys are just athletes with dumb minds, I don't need them to give anyone public health advice. But yes, they can do a better job of protesting the regime without getting themselves (or relatives) killed/jailed But even everyone that is complaining about the team, will be watching the games. It's sad that we'll be clenching our butt cheeks hoping to make it out of the group in a 48 team tournament to play in the round of 32 when we've been in the round of 32 multiple times in every world cup we've participated in since 1998. This is sad, how the standards fall. This is like hoping we make it to round of 16 in Asian Cup, if that is the standard, jamesh konim and let's put TM out to pasture. I would much prefer a team of under 23 players getting experience for the future and being embarrassing vs this retirement home team getting the belt to ass from New Zealand of all countries. Just to be clear, my post wasn't in any way about the technical abilities of these players or the team. My point was that this is the year that most of us DON"T want the team to advance, and yet, this might be the year that they actually do get out of the group stage.
