The threshold to get through is easier this world cup. We might be entirely unconvincing but a 2-0 win against NZ would 90% see us through to the knockout stage assuming there's other groups where the bottom two teams tie each other.

Not being a political activist works both ways, so when they're put on the spot, they can say "no comment, I don't want to speak on political matters" instead of brown nosing. That much anyone with some balls can do. Nobody's asking them to risk their lives but they can at least try to stay quiet or keep themselves out of these situations as much as possible - hell, call in sick when everyone's going to the regime gatherings, make some kind of effort to stand with the people. I get it though, when you're essentialy at the mercy of your captors as a hostage, it's tough to even avoid such situations - you have to pledge allegiance to the regime loud and proud at every chance or else you're considered to be on the enemy's side.
