"We have a lot of respect for Iran too. Iran are one of the favourites to win this World Cup in my opinion. They have excellent players and a great team."

Like I said if we are able to get out of our group then I am confident we will be able to have a top 4 finish. We have a tough group IMO

Japan-Guatemala still 4:2, based on stats they are much better, last third should reflect that.

To put into perspective, some recent results (last 3 months):
                    Iran - Oman 8:0
                    Iran - Italy 5:3

                    Italy - Portugal 5:4
                    Italy - Portugal 3:5

                    Paraguay - Japan 7:4
                    Paraguay - Oman 3:1

                    Oman - Japan 3:2
                    Japan - Tahiti 7:4
                    Mauritania - Tahiti 6:4

                    I would say:
                    Iran = Portugal > Italy = Paraguay > Oman > Japan > Mauritania > Tahiti

From that, I would still stand by my last post:
                    Iran/Portugal/Brazil 1st tier, Paraguay/Italy/Belarus 2nd tier, Spain/Oman/Chile/Senegal 3rd tier

Group C is not the best but the narrowest imo.

                    My prognosis:
                    Group A
                    Belarus > Japan > Guatemala > Seychelles
                    Group B
                    Iran > Portugal > Paraguay > Mauritania
                    Group C
                    Chile > Senegal > Spain > Tahiti
                    Group D
Brazil > Italy > Oman > El Salvador.

                    Quarters
Belarus vs Portugal => Portugal wins
Japan vs Iran => Iran wins
Chile vs Italy => Chile wins
Brazil vs Senegal => Brazil wins

                    Sems:
                    Portugal vs Chile
                    Iran vs Brazil

                      Japan beat Guatemala 5:2.

Right now, 1st third playded, Iran-Mauritania 4:1. Not necessarily pure domination, but I can see a two-digit score coming. Mauritania already seem demotivated.

Very weird yellow card for Mirshekari in the first second because of some formal mistake.

That "playing it safe" corner was the most stupid corner that I have seen in my life and strenghtened Mauritanias motivation to score another one.

Iran wins 5-4, but if you go by thirds
                        1st 4-1 Iran wins
                        2nd 1-1 tie
                        3rd 0-2 Mauritnia wins

Maybe that really was a reflection of Mauritania's unexpected strength, they beat Senegal and Spain, but I have not seen a lot of creativity from them tbh, still props. Maybe it was also because of wet sand/rain.

We can just hope that the other game Paraguay-Portugal go to overtime/penalties.

Tough group for Iran . And we just barely won the easiest game so don't build up much hopes. But Goooood Luck to Iran.

Watched the whole match. Iran was dominant in first and second periods. They got too comfortable and confident in 3rd and took their foot off the gas. Mauritania did much better in final period. They are silver metal winners in Africa, so no pushovers.

Mokhtari interviewed after match and said they lost their focus/concentration in the final period (he literally used the word “bi-khial” lol). They asked him what the plan is for the next games and he said the plan is to top the group.

i think it was a good wake-up call. Welcome to the World Cup.

paraguay and Portugal was a goal fest. We have our work cut out for us. Group of death fo sho.
