this is what happens when we do not invest in our youth teams. Our clubs focus only on getting older players instead of giving youth the chance to play. we need to require IPL teams to have half their roster be under U23. that is the only way we will force the old farts to retire and youth into our league.

That's already a thing in IPL since 2 seasons AFAIK. It goes even beyond that I believe, requiring at least 3 U17 and 9 U23 as a part of each 26 man roster. Someone correct me if I'm wrongOriginally posted by persian-eagle-13 View Postthis is what happens when we do not invest in our youth teams. It’s ok we have no money for our academy but we will find the extra $1 mil to bring an obese locodia over from Holland at the tail end of his careerOriginally posted by perspolis#1 View PostFixing our youth teams needs to be done by academies of outsiders such as they do in Qatar etc.
Iranians don't have the minutiae down of getting players past the basics as you see in PGL.
If one kid can do a trick freethrow thats it he might get to TM, but he cant trap a ball make a straight pass or cross....Please watch and Subscribe:

Our senior team does better because our players are exposed to foreign coaches, players and teams. From legionnaires to ACLto foreign imports in our league. Our young players live in complete iranian autarcia (except kia academy), iranians that are imcompetent past a certain level. It is also very rare to see foreigners come for u17 academies, specially in Iran.

Tbh if it wasn’t for Hong Kong’s miracle win against Syria we wouldn’t even have made it to the Asia cup in the first place we were odds on to get knocked out prior to that freak resultOriginally posted by eerooni View PostWhen have our youth teams ever shined for this team to emulate the Same?.. our ONLY Hope in our football, club included is our senior team. And even they can’t win an Asia cup or progress to the second round !!!

I can't fathom how within 2 years our U17 team can regress this much going from beating Brazil to getting schooled by Oman and Tajikistan , the only thing I can imagine is most of them were not really selected not based on merit but party bazi and other factors. some of them really lacked even basic skills.

it is very possible that party bazi happens in player selection (see some non deserving players in TM or even in some IPL squads).Originally posted by mani4000uk View PostI can't fathom how within 2 years our U17 team can regress this much going from beating Brazil to getting schooled by Oman and Tajikistan , the only thing I can imagine is most of them were not really selected not based on merit but party bazi and other factors. some of them really lacked even basic skills.
However and even if we are specialist of dumb moves, what would be the goal to select non deserving players for U17 TM, knowing this team was losing every games from AC qualifiers, friendlies and now AC?!
Btw, regarding previous U17 TM or every other country U17 squad, we can see very few of them make decent career considering their country standard.
And the U17 that beat Brazil isn't the same. Honestly U20 failure (mostly because of bad luck) hurts much more. If we keep on failing in the next U17 editions, then we have a big problem.

I stopped looking at anything happens in Islamic Republic in a logical way , nothing is ever seemed to be done based on reason . logic research, meritocracy is almost dead to answer your question about why they would do it, you don't have to look very far to see who gets to any position of power and privilege in the country .Originally posted by PSGman#19 View Post

The U20 was very unlucky , they lost to the same Japanese team in U17 very badly in the AFC Semis and losing on penalty to them couple of years later I still see some level of progress with them (although admittedly not enough). one thing that really stood out for me with this team was the sheer lack of even basic skills by a large number of these players. I am 43 , I don't think I ever remember an International Iranian team(especially at youth level ) be this bad at least at individual level ( team work was always an issue with exception of 2008, 2016 and 2023)
it is obvious to me that if Iran does not radically change direction in terms of talent development , investment , coaching etc qualifying for a WC will become a dream again just like the 80s and early nighties very soon even with a 8.5 slot in Asia. The likes of Uzbekistan very soon will take our place in this part of Asia with the way they are progressing in all age groups.
