IMO, GK was always a weak position for Iran, more than other position. The level is quite low and that's why a far from perfect Beiro is the best he have/had.
Like some attacking players that do a couple a fancy dribble is hyped as the new Ronaldinho, any GK that do a couple a fancy saves (most of the saves are just the striker shooting straight on the keeper) is hyped more than his current value/potential.
About GK, we should considered the full package "save + exit on center + sootis prone + footwork + general behavior/self-confidence/mental" and so far I have never seen an iranian GK having all. Sooti prone is the most basic criteria (except if the rest largely outweight occasional sootis).
Akhbari and Gordan aren't/wasn't world class GK but I find them very underrated.

He was by far the best keeper in the CQ era, no question about that.Originally posted by koorosh View PostPeak or no peak, Beiro is the best we've got. CQ is absolutely ruthless and wouldn't have selected him as number one if he wasn't the best.
Doesn't make him a great keeper but better than the rest.
This isn't like Mirzapour situation where we had other keepers but Branko and Human Afazeli said that there is no one better than Mirzapour and he played 23 consecutive games without getting a minute subbed, even for meaningless friendlies..
Beiranvand is definitely one of Iran's best ever keepers, it's just over the last 3-4 years he has made a lot of sootis and we now have other keepers who have come of age, as opposed to during the Queiroz era

if a number2 cant come in and adapt when needed then he isnt a good keeper. if we're being honest all our keepers arent good enough.Originally posted by Pluto2000 View PostGonna get flamed for this but in my opinion Hossein Hosseini is a more complete keeper than both Niazmand and Beiranvand. If in my opinion he had been given more starts for TM before England match, we wouldn't have conceded as much. He looked nervous having to come in under those circumstances. He shows a type of calm and relaxation that both Beiro and Niazmand lack

it's all about exits.Originally posted by Nokhodi View Post
Rahmati was a disaster. I still blame him for both South Korea ties in 2009, as well as the 2013 loss to Uzbekistan.
Beyranvand is much better on exits than anyone in our football since Abedzadeh.
His timing on the Japan goal was good too. He made the save, but it took a fluke deflection off his foot and went into the net.
biravand right now is top 3 of all time.
Remember what people don't realize is iran is not goali nation .

I just was on a long haul Air France flight from Japan and one of the films in the list was "Beyro" which took me by surprise
So I guess he has the fact that he is the only Iranian international to have a global cinema film made about him is unique. Maybe the making of the film coincided with his increase in sootis frequency

Exactly. Morocco he had good save vs Ziyech. Spain? Spain was shut out by our low block more than anything. Portugal he let in the trivela and save a pen, that’s it, Portugal didn’t get any other clean looks that game. He had the benefit of our golden defensive years with CQ but even Haghighi looked good under that system. If you compare the Argentina game, Haghighi had 4 saves and Argentina had 19 shot attempts. Vs Spain, only 2 saves to 17 attempts. 3 vs Portugal and none were particular challenging. 2 vs Morocco. And that was his peak.Originally posted by perspolis#1 View Post
Nokhodi jan I can attribute a save off of Ziyech for the Morocco game and Ronaldo's/Oman's penalty save.
I watched the highlights for Spain game and besides a very unorthodox punch away for a corner he had little to do with us icing Spain. In fact it was our defense esp Majid Hosseini.
As for Syria game we were cruising to an uninspiring win against a clueless in attacking Syria side. Beiranvand gave them a penalty which reduced our lifespans a few weeks.

Refresh your memory man.
He saved TM against Morocco, Spain and Portugal in WC 2018.
He saved TM against Oman in AC 2019.
He saved TM against Syria in AC 2023.
There are many more games I can't remember immediately, but he has been effective for TM and Persepolis countless times.

No one denies he was good in 2018. In fact, 2018/2019 Beiro was probably the best keeper in AsiaOriginally posted by Nokhodi View Post

However that was 5-6 years ago... Beiro is just not a good goalkeeper anymore...
Against Syria he was awful. Sure he saved a penalty, but he literally caused it as well!

Save team melli vs syria? He caused the pen and saved one of the worst penalties ever taken. His exits are really bad aswell. No one else besides Abedzadeh who has never been good is getting a chance. How can you watch how he speaks to the ref and defend this guy? Compare this guys behaviour to someone like Hosseini. He has been average since 2019 and up until wc 2018 he was a disaster where no one even wanted him to start at the wc. He lacks the basics and doesnt even have the attitude to play on the national team.Originally posted by Nokhodi View Post

take biravand out pp finish 3rdOriginally posted by Pluto2000 View Post
Btw I think the reason y'all won last season at PP is not because Beiranvand but because of PAG. Beiro's weaknesses were covered by PAG and with him out he's conceding some of the tokhmiest goals. PP backline is basically TM backline 🤣.

He was huge after WC 2018 an the first half of 2019. I remember the SK/Iran friendly in 2019, he was MVP (hence Wilmots advice Antwerp to take him)

I made a mistake here - he was poor versus Hong Kong. I mixed up the Syria and Hong Kong game.Originally posted by Nokhodi View Post
Man he wasn't even bad versus Hong Kong. His tackle was poor, but he had barely any time to adjust after Cheshmi's sooti.
I still think he's an underrated and disrespected goalie. Fans don't know his worth.
Everyone thinks he is to save every damn ball. Biggest issue is we are swiss cheese in the middle of the field.

He is bang average with a couple physical traits that make him impressive in some aspects but mental and reaction traits that drag him right back to the mean.
He is exceptionally tall but in spite of that he has always struggles with his aerial exits and is far from sure handed on crosses
His exit timing and reactions are subpar and we saw this on several goals this AC, including Japan goal.
Most average goalkeepers would concede those goals against Qatar, but team Melli deserves an exceptional keeper. I remember even during our 2000’s slump we had Rahmati who was an incredible shot stopper. We seem to alternate generations of good and average.
