Tehran Times – ST. PETERSBURG, Iran U-17 football team has been drawn in Group D of the Valentin Granatkin Memorial International Football Tournament.

Group D consists of Saint Petersburg, Iran, Moldova and Slovenia.

Iran will play Saint Petersburg in its opening match on January 9.

Tajikistan, Greece, Bulgaria, Estonia are in Group A.

Host Russia has been drawn in Group B along with Latvia, Belarus, and India.

Group C consists of Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Slovakia, and Kazakhstan.

The international tournament will be held in Saint Petersburg, Russia from January 8-21, 2017.

The International youth football tournament was initiated by the FIFA President Joao Havelange for the first time in 1981 in Moscow. Valentin Granatkin was the FIFA first vice-president and passed away on November 2, 1979.

Granatkin tournament always is a place of discoveries. Memorial was a first loud word from the future stars of world football – Andreas Moeller, Oliver Bierhoff, Kirsten Janker, Marcel David Desailly, Igor Kolyvanov and Alexandr Mostovoy.
